Job Purpose

The purpose of the Technical Systems Analyst (Design) role is to design, document, and optimize technology solutions that support freight movement, transport planning, route optimization, and fleet visibility. This role focuses on technical solution design and integration, acting as a bridge between business requirements and IT implementation. The role ensures that systems, APIs, and data flows are designed with scalability, security, and performance in mind, enabling digital logistics transformation across the enterprise.

Job Performance Criteria

Internal processes

Output: Technical Solution Design

  • Analyse current logistics platforms (TMS, route planning, yard management, telematics, customer portals) with a focus on technical architecture and data integration.
  • Design end to end system workflows, data mappings, and integration flows (APIs, EDI, real time streaming).
  • Define non functional requirements (scalability, security, performance, availability) for system enhancements.

Requirements Gathering & Documentation

  • Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate business needs into detailed technical specifications.
  • Produce system design documents, integration diagrams, interface definitions, and data flow models.
  • Ensure all documentation is aligned to IT architectural standards and supports development/testing activities.

System Design & Enhancement

  • Design technical solutions for transport planning, scheduling, order execution, and real time visibility.
  • Recommend architecture improvements for automation, exception handling, and KPI dashboards.
  • Contribute to technology evaluations (IoT tracking, digital freight matching, predictive analytics).

Customer Services: Implementation & Integration

  • Collaborate with developers and vendors to ensure designs are correctly implemented.
  • Oversee API and data integration projects with carriers, GPS providers, and customer systems.

Learning & Growth: Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current with logistics and IT trends (cloud native integration, microservices, event driven architectures).
  • Recommend emerging technologies to strengthen system resilience and customer experience.
Knowledge
  • Integration protocols and formats (JSON, XML, REST, SOAP, EDI).
  • Relational databases and SQL.
  • System architecture principles and data flow design.
Technical Skills
  • Solution and integration design.
  • Process modelling and system mapping (UML, BPMN).

Qualifications and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years' experience in systems analysis or technical design roles within IT.
  • Experience in API design, system integration, and technical specifications.
  • Background in logistics, freight, or transportation systems (advantageous).
