Strategic Projects Project Manager
Job Description
Cape Town, South Africa Posted on 26/05/2026
At Pargo, we are solving the unique challenges of last-mile delivery in South Africa. As we scale rapidly, onboarding massive global and local enterprise clients (e.g., e-commerce giants, global tech brands) and pioneering innovative new delivery services, we need an execution-focused leader to drive our most critical initiatives over the finish line.
We are seeking a high-energy, execution-driven Project Manager to implement our strategic projects . Your primary objective is speed-to-value: getting enterprise clients integrated, tested and live as quickly as possible to unlock revenue. Simultaneously, you will play a pivotal role in launching, operationalising and growing our innovative new services, helping them transition from pilot phases into highly scalable commercial operations.
This is not a passive coordinator role. You will enter a fast-paced environment where you must act as a structured enforcer-commanding the room, instilling rigorous project governance following PMBOK standards, managing change seamlessly through frameworks like PROSCI and ensuring that internal teams and external partners deliver on time.
Key Responsibilities High-Stakes Project Execution & DeliveryLead end-to-end implementation cycles for large enterprise integrations and complex client rollouts from signed contract to successful "Hypercare" transition, utilising structured PMBOK project life cycles.
Maintain an obsessive focus on accelerating "Go-Live" timelines to unlock revenue realisation quickly.
Seamlessly manage technical workstreams (APIs, system integrations, event triggers, tracking data pipelines) alongside physical logistics workstreams (UAT physical parcel testing, carrier configurations, warehouse dry runs).
Launching & Scaling Innovative Last-Mile ServicesTake ownership of early-stage pilots for innovative new services and design the operational pathways to scale them across South Africa.
Collaborate closely with Solutions, Operations, and Tech to refine service models, optimize parcel journeys and build repeatable operational blueprints.
Drive the adoption of these new services in the market, working with internal teams to identify expansion opportunities and resolve initial execution bottlenecks.
Rigorous Governance & Risk Management (PMBOK)Establish and maintain rigorous project governance aligning with PMBOK Performance Domains, ensuring disciplined scope, schedule, and quality management.
Build and maintain flawless project documentation, including detailed Project Charters, Statements of Work (SOWs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and comprehensive test plans.
Own the RAID Log (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies) with a hyper-vigilant mindset; proactively identify cross-functional bottlenecks and manage risk exposures before they impact delivery timelines.
Structured Change Management (PROSCI)Integrate PROSCI change management methodologies directly into project plans to ensure high adoption rates and minimal operational disruption during client rollouts.
Conduct change impact assessments and readiness checks across internal business units and external partner networks (including South African courier and retail networks).
Develop targeted communication and enablement plans to guide cross-functional squads seamlessly through technical and operational transitions.
Culture of Accountability & "GSD"Act as a structured enforcer across a matrixed organizational footprint. You will hold busy internal stakeholders (across Tech/Dev, Solutions, Commercial, and Operations) strictly accountable to their deliverables.
Command project meetings with authority, ensuring clear action items, unambiguous ownership, and explicit deadlines.
Elevate internal project discipline, ensuring meeting structures, documentation standards, and governance protocols are respected across the business.
Act as the core, trusted operational interface for senior stakeholders within our enterprise accounts.
Manage complex external relationships, keeping technical updates moving even when dealing with slow-moving third-party couriers, local customs environments, or client governance councils.
Balance internal engineering capacities against demanding external client expectations with exceptional commercial diplomacy.
Requirements Qualifications & ExperienceExperience: 4-7 years of project management experience, specifically leading large enterprise integrations, B2B software rollouts or technical implementations.
South African Context: Solid understanding of the South African logistics, e-commerce, and courier ecosystem, including regional transit nuances, local regulations and key market players.
Methodologies: Deep knowledge of PMBOK framework and principles. Formal certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) and PROSCI Certified Change Practitioner are strongly preferred.
Tools: Proficiency in advanced project management governance tools (e.g., Jira, Zoho Projects, Asana, or Smartsheet) and managing comprehensive RAID logs.
Track Record: Proven success managing high-pressure environments where you had to influence cross-functional teams without direct line authority.
A Technical-Operational Bridge: You don't need to code, but you have deep experience managing large-scale IT and software integrations. You can confidently talk about APIs, system architecture, and tech sprints with developers, while simultaneously understanding how those systems impact real-world 3PL courier operations and logistics routing.
An Execution Specialist: You thrive when handed an ambiguous corporate strategy or a signed RFP, turning it into a highly structured, sequence-driven project plan. You leave the long-term business casing to the COO; your obsession is flawless execution.
A Resilient Enforcer: You possess a strong presence. You aren't afraid to gently but firmly hold senior leaders accountable, push past internal friction, call out dropped balls, and do whatever it takes to "Get Stuff Done" (GSD).
A Pioneer for Innovation: You are excited by new technology and business models. You look at lockers, smart collection points, and next-gen tech networks as exciting puzzles to solve, and you enjoy finding ways to operationalize them efficiently in the South African context.
A Process Purist: You believe that a project isn't successful unless it is stable and repeatable. You value absolute RAID discipline, traditional project governance benchmarks (PMBOK), and structured people-side change management (PROSCI).
What Success Looks Like at 6 MonthsYou have successfully moved our active enterprise implementations through hypercare and into stable operations.
You have successfully initiated and scoped a new client integration with the cross-functional teams.
Pargo's project delivery maturity has visibly elevated; meeting invites, RAID logs, and PROSCI aligned readiness documents are standard practice and highly respected by the team.
There is a clear, repeatable "blueprint" for onboarding enterprise clients, significantly shortening our time-to-value on future integrations.

We empower businesses of all sizes to offer convenient and reliable delivery and return options to their customers, leveraging our proprietary software and extensive network of retail partners.
