About the role

West Wits Mining is seeking a dynamic and experienced Stakeholder Engagement Officer who is responsible for building, maintaining, and strengthening relationships between the company and its stakeholders, including local communities, government entities, traditional authorities, NGOs, employees, and industry partners. The role ensures that stakeholder concerns, expectations, and feedback are integrated into the company's operations and sustainability initiatives in line with legal requirements, social license to operate, and corporate values.

Key Responsibilities Stakeholder Relationship Management
  • Identify, map, and maintain an up-to-date stakeholder database.
  • Develop and nurture positive relationships with key stakeholders, including local communities, traditional leaders, government departments, regulators, and NGOs.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for community and stakeholder queries, grievances, and feedback.
Engagement & Communication
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate stakeholder engagement meetings, workshops, and public consultations.
  • Support implementation of the company's stakeholder engagement plan, aligned with social performance, sustainability, and HSE objectives.
  • Draft communication materials (e.g., presentations, newsletters, notices) to ensure transparent and consistent messaging.
Compliance & Reporting
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks, Social and Labour Plans (SLP), Mining Charter, ESG standards, and other stakeholder-related commitments.
  • Monitor and track stakeholder issues and provide timely reports to management.
  • Support the development of annual and quarterly reports on stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Identify potential risks and emerging stakeholder concerns that may affect the company's operations.
  • Support grievance resolution mechanisms and elevate critical issues when necessary.
  • Contribute to conflict prevention and resolution strategies with affected communities.
  • Work closely with HR, HSE, Corporate Affairs, and Operations teams to ensure alignment between stakeholder needs and company initiatives.
  • Support the implementation of community development projects and sustainability programs.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences, Communications, Public Relations, Community Development, or related field.
  • 3-5 years' experience in stakeholder engagement, community relations, corporate affairs, or a related role (mining or extractive industry experience preferred).
  • Knowledge of mining legislation, Social and Labour Plans, Mining Charter, and ESG standards.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English and relevant local languages (advantage).
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to remote sites.
