Specialist Data Scientist

This role will champion big data, advanced analytics, and machine learning to help build the next generation of personalised, contextualised, and intelligent services across consumer, merchant, financial services, remittances, and business platforms.

• Lead data driven commercial strategy across business markets.
• Translate business challenges into analytics and machine learning use cases.
• Drive personalization and contextual product experiences through data insights.
• Partner with engineering, product, and OpCo leadership to prioritise data initiatives.
• Develop predictive models (e.g., churn, credit scoring, fraud detection, customer segmentation).
• Define KPIs and performance frameworks across product portfolios.
• Build dashboards and executive reporting for commercial decision making.
• Identify and evaluate new revenue opportunities using advanced analytics.
• Champion data governance, quality, and best practices across markets.
• Support experimentation (A/B testing, cohort analysis, customer journey analytics).

• Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or related quantitative field.
• Postgraduate qualification (Advantageous).

• 7+ years' experience in data analytics, commercial analytics, or data science.
• Proven experience in fintech, telecoms, digital payments, or financial services.
• Experience working across multiple markets or large scale organisations.
• Demonstrated experience influencing commercial strategy through data insights.

• Strong SQL proficiency.
• Advanced Python or R for analytics and machine learning.
• Experience with big data platforms (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, cloud data platforms).
• Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
• Predictive modelling & machine learning experience.
• Customer segmentation and behavioural analytics.
• A/B testing and experimentation frameworks.
• Data visualisation and storytelling.

• Experience in mobile money ecosystems.
• Exposure to credit, lending, fraud, or risk analytics.
• Experience in international remittances.
• Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Knowledge of regulatory and compliance environments in financial services.
