A leading South African Underwriting Manager specialising in Short-Term Insurance Solutions is seeking an experienced and target-driven Commercial Sales Consultant to join their dynamic New Business Sales team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially-minded insurance professional who thrives in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment and has a passion for building broker relationships and delivering exceptional client solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Quote Preparation & Submission: Respond timeously to new business leads with accurate, competitive quotes that address client insurance needs
  • Rate Negotiation: Apply underwriting knowledge and discretion to negotiate rates within company guidelines
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong professional partnerships with brokers and internal stakeholders
  • Up-Selling & Solutions: Leverage product knowledge to provide comprehensive commercial insurance solutions
  • New Business Processing: Assist with processing commercial new business applications and loading new policies
  • Performance Monitoring: Evaluate client loss ratios and credit history to ensure sound underwriting decisions
  • Target Achievement: Meet individual and departmental sales targets in a highly incentive-driven environment
  • Broker Liaison: Maintain efficient communication and follow-up on quotes and new business with brokers
  • Technical Collaboration: Work with technical sales management on complex underwriting issues
  • Turnaround Excellence: Maintain fast quote turnaround times to achieve strong closing ratios
Essential Qualifications
  • Matric (Essential)
  • FETC in Short-Term Insurance - NQF 4 (150 credits) (Essential)
  • RE 1 (Representative Exam) - Successfully passed
  • Class of Business Certification: Personal Lines & Commercial Lines
  • Higher Certificate in Short-Term Insurance (NQF 5 or higher) - Highly advantageous
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience in short-term insurance sales and underwriting (Commercial Lines focus essential)
  • Proven track record in a target-driven sales environment
  • Experience working with brokers and managing broker relationships
Technical Skills
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • TIAL Operating System (System A) experience - Highly advantageous
  • Sound knowledge of commercial short-term insurance policy wording
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
Language Proficiency
  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans (verbal and written) - Essential
