The South African College Junior School invites applications from enthusiastic and skilled individuals for the position of Foundation Phase Music Teacher, commencing 1 January 2027.

Music is an important pillar of our school and forms a valued and vibrant part of our school culture. The Role

The Foundation Phase Music Teacher will deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons while playing an active role in the Junior School's co-curricular programme. We are looking for a collaborative educator who thrives within a dynamic subject team and contributes meaningfully to the broader school community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Class Music: Plan and deliver engaging, creative lessons that build strong musical foundations and inspire a love of music.
  • Recorder Programme: Lead and further develop the Foundation Phase recorder programme.
  • Choir: Direct the Foundation Phase Choir, fostering confident, joyful, and musically secure singing.
  • Accompaniment: Provide piano accompaniment for the Senior Primary Choir, school assemblies, and other music activities.
  • Performances: Prepare learners for assemblies, concerts, and school events, contributing to a vibrant performance culture.
  • Collaboration: Work closely within a collegial and supportive Music Department.
  • Administration: Ensure lesson records are kept up to date, maintain well-structured and organised class music planning, prepare bi-annual music reports for individual students, manage resources effectively, and maintain clear communication with staff and parents where appropriate.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Music or Music Education (e.g. BMus, BMusEd, or equivalent diploma/certificate).
  • A PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification (preferred).
  • Registration with SACE (South African Council for Educators), or eligibility for registration.
  • Experience in teaching music to young learners (preferred).
  • Confident piano skills, particularly for accompaniment.
  • Strong organisational and classroom management skills.
  • A genuine passion for music education and developing young learners.
  • A positive, team-oriented approach and willingness to contribute to the broader life of the School.
