Job Description

Position Purpose

Lead pharmaceutical policy development, medicine use evaluation, and clinical governance within the HPU. Provide advanced pharmaceutical expertise, support HPU pharmacists, and ensure policies are defensible, cost effective, and aligned with legislation and best practice managed care.

Experience & Qualifications

BPharm degree + completed Internship & Community Service

  • SAPC registration
  • 3-5 years' managed healthcare experience OR pharma
  • 2+ years' supervisory/management experience
  • Strong understanding of medical scheme benefits, formularies, and relevant legislation
  • Manufacturing, microbiology, or product registration experience (Advantageous)
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Drug Utilisation Reviews (DUR) and drive evidence based prescribing.
  • Optimise medicine costs through formulary, pricing, and utilisation analysis.
  • Maintain evidence based managed care protocols and ensure PMB compliance.
  • Support teams with complex PMB queries and ensure consistent application of clinical criteria.
  • Implement cost containment and value based initiatives.
  • Engage pharmacies, clinicians, and provider groups to promote rational prescribing.
  • Monitor clinical and operational performance indicators to identify gaps in care or utilisation.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, consistency, and clinical outcomes.
  • Integrate learnings into policy updates, governance processes, and operational workflows.
