The School of Pharmacy at UWC is the sole pharmacy school in the Western Cape and is a leading institution for the education of pharmacists in South Africa. It prides itself on patient and service oriented education built on a sound scientific base and active research programmes, with Pharmacy Practice being a key discipline involving external communities at local and national levels.
The School of Pharmacy intends to appoint an experienced Academic Pharmacist to complement and enhance its teaching and research effort in Pharmacy Practice.
Responsibilities- Facilitate learning and teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
- Conduct research and postgraduate supervision;
- Contribute to community engagement and outreach;
- Manage academic administration;
- Actively participate in curriculum development and assessment.
- Ph.D. in Pharmacy Practice (or closely related field) or MPhil/ MSc in Pharmacy Practice with >5 years of practice experience;
- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as Pharmacist;
- Demonstrated competence in teaching and learning in Pharmacy Practice at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
- Experience in a South African practice setting.
- BPharm and MSc or MPharm in Pharmacy Practice (to be completed by date of appointment);
- Registration with SAPC as Pharmacist;
- Teaching experience in Pharmacy Practice or practice experience in a South African practice setting;
- Record of research or participation in ongoing research.
- Track record of research projects and securing research funding;
- Active collaborations and partnerships with a national academic presence in Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice;
- Experience in forensic pharmacy, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacy and medicine management, social pharmacy and public health;
- Verbal and written communication skills in English for teaching, research, and professional engagement;
- Ability to engage and train students, provide academic supervision and mentorship at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
- Proficiency to conduct research and contribute to scholarly publications;
- Planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage academic, research and administrative responsibilities efficiently;
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
