Job Description

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB
  • To teach English as a Home & Second Language at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • To teach English as a Foreign language at a postgraduate level.
  • To teach Meta Theories in Language at a postgraduate level.
  • To supervise postgraduate students in Language and Education.
  • To engage in the assessment of School-Based Learning and Teaching.
  • To publish and lead research in the field of Language and Education.
  • To participate in Community Engagement.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • Facilitate learning, teaching, and assessment processes in the Faculty.
  • Engage in scholarly work with an increased focus on the Africanisation and Decolonization of the use of Language in Education.
  • Research and Collaborate in the field of Language and Education.
  • Participate in Faculty administration.
CORE COMPETENCIES
  • Facilitate teaching, learning and assessment processes in the field of Language in Education.
  • Facilitate the teaching of English Language at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • A sound knowledge of teaching and assessment strategies within the digital space as it relates to the field of language and Education.
  • Ability to adapt the teaching of English Language to a diverse group of students.
  • Ability to conduct scholarly work with an increased focus on Africanization and Decolonization of languages within of education.
  • Supervision of postgraduate students to completion would be an advantage.
  • Ability to work and effectively engage in interdisciplinary discourses in the field of languages.
  • Facilitate and engage in curriculum development processes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Ability to work in Moodle.
REQUIREMENTS
  • A relevant PhD or M Ed degree in Language in Education or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years' experience in teaching English at a school level
  • At least 3 years' experience in teaching English at a university level
  • A proven record of:
    • supervising M&D students to completion.
    • Research productivity in and around the field of Language in Education.
  • A sound disciplinary knowledge of Language in Education.
