Introduction

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Distribution Pharmacist. The role will be based at the Roodepoort Lea Glen branch and will report into the Responsible Pharmacist.

Job Purpose

To ensure compliance with the medicines and related substances Act, Act 101 of 1965 and subsequently amended, and the Pharmacy Act, Act 53 of 1974 and as subsequently amended, for both UPD Wholesale and UPD Distribution.

Key Performance Areas
  • To ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), company policies, applicable quality regulatory standards and guidelines
  • To ensure correct handling, receipt, storage and distribution of pharmaceutical products on behalf of Marketing Authorization Holders (MAH) / Distribution Principals
  • To maintain the Quality Managements System (QMS) by preparing and updating SOPs, conducting internal and external audits and monitoring staff training.
  • To ensure effective management of product returns, product recalls, destruction process and reporting of product complaints / adverse events
  • To ensure effective management of deviations, including root cause analysis and implementation of ensuing Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA)
  • Ensure that routine annual calibration and maintenance of critical equipment is performed
  • To ensure that product release and sampling of products are conducted within Service Level Agreement (SLA)
  • To ensure that favorable audit reports are received from Distribution Principals, and assist the Responsible Pharmacist in compiling CAPA's for the receipted audit reports
  • To ensure management of schedule 5, specified schedule 5 and schedule 6 products
  • To ensure that the annual validation schedule is signed off, implemented and maintained as per the Validation Plan
  • To assist with the qualification of temperature controlled vehicles, warehouse and cold rooms facilities
  • To ensure availability of emergency after hours service where applicable
  • To ensure that there is continuous Pharmacist supervision of premises during operating hours.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Ensure that he or she continuously supervises the pharmacy in which he or she has been appointed
  • Ensure that persons being employed in such pharmacy and who provide services forming part of the scope of pharmacy practice of a pharmacist are appropriately registered with the Pharmacy Council
  • Take corrective measures in respect of deficiencies with regard to inspection reports of the Pharmacy Council or in terms of the Medicines Act
  • Initiate and coordinate all recall activities, which should involve the Head of Quality Management
  • Control the distribution of medicines, scheduled substances or medical devices in terms of the provisions of the Medicines Act, 1965
  • Ensure that there is compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice as published by the Pharmacy Council
  • Ensure that no person is appointed to perform any act falling outside the scope of practice of the category in which such person is registered or which he/she is not authorised to perform in terms of the Pharmacy Act, 1974
  • Not introduce or carry out any instruction or order of management with regard to the pharmacy business of the pharmacy owner which could amount to a contravention of legislation applicable to such pharmacy business
  • Be responsible to SAHPRA for compliance with the provisions of the Medicines and Related Substances Act, 1965 relating to the sale, control of the distribution of medicines, scheduled substances or medical devices.

Minimum Job Related Experience
  • Min 5 Years' experience in Wholesale / Distribution or Pharmaceutical manufacturing industry
  • Experience in production, quality and regulatory will be preferable
