About the RoleThe Security Chemist & Environmental Specialist plays a key role within the Paint Shop Process Team, ensuring that all process materials used comply with international, local, and Volkswagen Group standards relating to chemical compliance. At the paint shop and plant level, the role coordinates environmental activities linked to Volkswagen Group's Zero Impact Factory objectives, with a particular focus on water, waste, and effluent management. The position works closely with engineering teams, suppliers, and authorities to support sustainable manufacturing practices and regulatory compliance. This position is based in the Paintshop - Production (Kariega).
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate the approval of new chemicals and process materials in line with chemical compliance and conformity standards.
- Ensure all routine material and chemical testing required by Volkswagen Group standards is performed and documented.
- Implement quality control measures to ensure accurate, reliable chemical analysis and testing results.
- Maintain and manage technical and safety data sheets for all relevant materials.
- Coordinate water management and treatment activities at plant level, including oversight of service providers.
- Ensure effective effluent control measures in collaboration with municipal authorities and internal stakeholders.
- Minimum Qualifications: BSc or National Diploma in Chemistry (Analytical / Biochemistry)
- Experience: Minimum 5 years' experience in chemical analysis, material testing, or related laboratory activities.
- Solid understanding of Chemical Compliance Management and applicable regulations.
- Sound knowledge of water treatment processes and emissions testing requirements.
- Experience within a manufacturing or automotive environment will be advantageous.
- Knowledge of laboratory protocols, testing standards, and ISO 17025 principles.
- Strong analytical and problem solving ability.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi disciplinary team.
- Effective communication skills at all organisational levels.
- Ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
