A Sasol Driver operates light, heavy, and specialised vehicles to transport personnel, chemicals, petroleum products, equipment, and operational materials across Sasol's mining, petrochemical, gas, and energy production facilities.

Salary and Employee Benefits
  • Code 8 / light vehicle, personnel transport, and site driving - ZAR 9,000-14,000 per month
  • Code 10 / materials, equipment, and supply chain delivery - ZAR 14,000-20,000 per month
  • Code 14 / bulk fuel, chemical tanker, and heavy haulage transport - ZAR 20,000-32,000 per month
  • Specialised Tanker and Hazmat Driver (ADR certified) - ZAR 25,000-40,000+ per month depending on cargo class and operational site
  • Shift allowances and night shift premiums - applicable across Sasol's 24-hour continuous plant and logistics operations
  • Danger and hazardous materials allowances - for roles transporting petroleum products, chemicals, and regulated substances

Licences and Certifications
  • Code 8 (B) Driver's Licence - minimum requirement for light vehicle and personnel transport roles
  • Code 10 (C) or Code 14 (EC) Driver's Licence - required for materials delivery, tanker operations, heavy haulage, and bulk transport roles
  • Professional Driving Permit (PDP) - required for all commercial, tanker, and personnel transport roles; must be valid and current
  • ADR (Accord Dangereux Routier) Dangerous Goods Certificate - required for all roles transporting petroleum products, chemicals, liquefied gases, and hazardous substances; must be valid and regularly renewed
  • Tanker Endorsement - required for bulk liquid fuel and chemical tanker driving roles
  • Defensive Driving Certificate - required or strongly preferred across all Sasol driver roles
  • Forklift Operator Certificate - advantageous for roles involving warehouse, stores, and materials handling at plant facilities
Education
  • Grade 10 minimum acceptable; Grade 12 (Matric) strongly preferred by Sasol
  • No tertiary qualification required for driver roles
  • Literacy and numeracy competency assessed as part of the Sasol recruitment and induction process
Experience
  • 2-5 years of verified driving experience in the relevant licence class preferred
  • Prior experience in a petrochemical, fuel distribution, mining, or heavy industrial environment strongly advantageous
  • Experience operating chemical tankers, fuel bowsers, or bulk liquid transport vehicles is an advantage for senior driver roles
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hazardous materials handling procedures and South African dangerous goods road transport regulations
  • A clean, unendorsed driving record is required for all positions
  • A clear safety record with no major workplace incidents or hazmat violations is required
Key Skills and Attributes
  • Thorough knowledge of Sasol's site traffic management rules, plant access protocols, and HSEQ standards
  • Ability to operate light, heavy, and tanker vehicles safely in active petrochemical plant, mining, and distribution environments
  • Ability to complete trip sheets, vehicle pre-trip inspection checklists, dangerous goods consignment notes, and transport logbooks accurately
  • Sound understanding of hazardous materials (Hazmat) classification, placarding, spill response procedures, and emergency protocols
  • Proficiency with fleet tracking systems, two-way radios, and site communication protocols
  • Professional and safety-conscious approach to personnel transport, chemical handling, and fuel product distribution
  • Physically fit and able to meet Sasol's medical fitness standards for operational site access
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and public holidays across continuous plant operations
