VACANCY

Safety, Health and Environment Officer

The successful incumbent will report directly to the General Manager.

Job Description
  • Provide support and guidance to managers on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) matters within the organisation
  • Investigate incidents using root cause analysis tools and compile detailed reports
  • Implement, monitor and enforce compliance with OHS legislation
  • Review and update safety management systems and associated training programmes
  • Monitor and report on incidents and accidents
  • Provide first responder assistance during medical emergencies (during and after hours)
  • Compile and present weekly, monthly and quarterly reports
  • Participate in workplace committees and forums
  • Assist and participate in firefighting operations
  • Handle Injury on Duty (IOD) mitigation and management
  • Oversee contractor management processes
  • Ensure site environmental management and compliance
Requirements

Education / Skills

  • SAMTRAC qualification or equivalent
  • Occupational Health and Safety Act training certificate
  • Firefighting and emergency procedures training
  • Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act within a forestry-related industry
  • First aid / medical response training
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Valid driver's licence
Person Requirements
  • Well-organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to work under pressure
  • Comfortable liaising across all organisational levels
  • Ability to meet deadlines consistently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in business English
  • Ability to communicate in isiXhosa will be advantageous
  • Good report-writing capability
  • Sound problem-solving skills
  • Thorough knowledge of health and safety systems and legal requirements, with proven implementation ability
