Job Description

Regulatory Solicitor

This Regulatory Division is recognised as one of the largest and most highly regarded practices in the country, consistently ranked in the top tier of Legal 500 and Chambers UK for Professional Discipline.

A unique blend of expertise in both health and regulation sets this team apart. With more than two decades of experience, the division has managed many thousands of regulatory cases from initial investigation through to preparation and final presentation. It acts for health and social care regulators, alongside regulators in the veterinary/equine, legal services, education and surveyor sectors. The team is trusted to handle some of the most complex, sensitive and high profile matters in the regulatory landscape.

Joining the Regulatory Division means becoming part of a team that is widely respected across the sector and known for its integrity, intellectual rigour and meaningful impact. It offers the opportunity to develop your career, work on cases that truly matter, and grow within a supportive, specialist environment that values ambition, development, wellbeing and potential.

The Role

This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of regulatory law. You will handle matters where a professional's fitness to practise is called into question due to conviction, misconduct, competency concerns or health related issues. The role offers intellectual challenge, a strong public interest dimension, and the chance to make a tangible impact on professional standards and patient safety.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As an Associate, you will lead the day to day conduct of cases with partner supervision and paralegal support. You will play a central role in progressing investigations efficiently, engaging with witnesses and experts, and ensuring robust case preparation. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing clear case strategies from the outset and advising on procedural and evidential issues
  • Identifying and obtaining all necessary factual evidence
  • Acting as the main point of contact for witnesses and conducting interviews, including in complex or sensitive situations
  • Supervising and reviewing witness statements prepared by paralegals
  • Instructing expert witnesses, reviewing reports and seeking clarification where required
  • Preparing instructions to counsel (both internal advocates and external counsel) and attending conferences
  • Managing follow up actions to maintain momentum and case progression
  • Drafting or reviewing charges to ensure they accurately reflect the evidence
  • Handling disclosure of unused material in line with regulatory requirements
  • Liaising with defence representatives ahead of hearings
  • Overseeing preparation of hearing bundles by paralegals
  • Attending hearings at the outset and remaining available to address legal, evidential or strategic issues
  • Preparing high quality final reports at the conclusion of cases

In addition to core responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to contribute to business development, internal training and the continued growth of the practice.

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience handling regulatory, disciplinary, litigation or advisory matters, with exposure to fitness to practise or professional standards work being advantageous
  • Have been involved in evidence gathering exercises, including working with witnesses and reviewing documentary material
  • Have experience working with counsel and experts, including supporting hearing preparation
  • Be able to work collaboratively within a supervised team, contributing proactively to shared objectives, supporting colleagues and responding constructively to feedback
