Overview

A vacancy exists for a Registered Nurse NICU experienced, based in our NICU at Life Queenstown Private Hospital, reporting to Sango Gqibisa Maternity/NICU Unit Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing holistic and optimal quality nursing care to patients in order to maximize a positive outcome for the customer in line with Company & Hospital strategic objectives.

Critical Outputs
  • Providing quality basic and specialised nursing care
  • Continual communication with the patient and family with regards to the patient's condition
  • Administering medication in accordance with ethical and legal framework
  • Reviewing and complying with internal policies and protocols
  • Ensuring quality management systems and initiatives are conducted according to the unit specification
  • Advocating the patient by motivating acuity to case management and notifying the doctor of any limitations
Effective People Management
  • Interacting and communicating with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Providing training and development to ensure personal and professional growth
  • Ensuring the NICU team works according to the scope of practice in order to ensure the correct skills mix is utilized
Effective Cost Management
  • Managing all stock used according to unit specific policies and protocols
  • Controlling and managing staff hours leave in accordance with company policy
Effective Infection Control and SHEQ
  • Maintaining a safe and holistic patient environment in order to enforce infection control
  • Promoting a safe and healthy working environment by completing SHEQ alerts and incident reports to the SHEQ Coordinator
Effective Relationships with Internal/External Stakeholders
  • Conducting in-service orientation on doctor specific preferences
  • Executing doctor's requests and prescriptions after patient rounds
  • Assisting multi-disciplinary team members with execution of their duties
Effective Equipment and Instrumentation Functioning
  • Checking equipment and instrumentation are in working condition on a daily basis and reporting any defaults to Unit Manager and Clinical Engineer
  • Educating and supervising staff and doctors on the correct utilisation of specialised equipment and instrumentation
Effective Record Keeping
  • Ensuring records are accurately completed and stored in accordance with legal and ethical requirements
Requirements
  • Relevant degree or diploma in nursing
  • Nursing experience in NICU
  • Current registration with the relevant professional or regulatory body
  • Understanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantage
  • Computer proficiency
  • Driver's licence and ability to travel
