Mission of the role

Reporting to the R&D Engineering Director, the selected candidate will act as Mechanical Designer. This position is to strengthen our manufacturing capacities by having a more robust drawing database and more consistency in drawing best practices for the R&D department based in Montreal, Canada and Spring, S. A. This position offers hands on experience, exposure to diverse technologies, and strong opportunities for growth within Epiroc.

Your mission
  • Develop and maintain 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks and/or Inventor, applying industry best practices in design modeling, drafting, and GD&T.
  • Conduct tolerance, stack up, and fit analyses to ensure compliance with functional and manufacturing requirements.
  • Review and validate assembly drawings, weldments, Bills of Materials (BOM), and assembly instructions for accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to optimize mechanical designs across machining, casting, welding, and surface treatment processes.
  • Maintain revision control and keep all 3D models and drawings current using SolidWorks Vault or PDM systems.
  • Provide technical support to sales teams, field technicians, and production centers (Montreal, Canada and Springs, South Africa), delivering engineering solutions for non conformities and derogations.
  • Drive continuous improvement by developing and optimizing methods, procedures, and processes across production, assembly, and manufacturing projects.
Your Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, with 6 10 years of proven design experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
Technical Skills
  • Mechanical design experience (aluminum structures considered an asset).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical manufacturing processes (machining, casting, welding, surface treatments) and design for manufacturability principles.
  • Proficiency in creating 3D/2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks and/or Inventor software.
  • Experience using a vault/PDM system for revision control (asset).
  • Demonstrated ability to assess the impact of mechanical part design and changes across the full production chain (procurement, inventory, manufacturing, quality control, sales).
  • Knowledge of ERP systems (asset).
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management systems in manufacturing (asset).
  • Industrial experience in GD&T, tolerance, stack up, and fit analysis.
