  • Effective communication skills for documenting findings and coordinating with production teams.
  • Basic proficiency in computer software for recording inspections and generating reports (e.g., MS Office, digital inspection apps).

Key Roles and Responsibilities

As a QA/QC Inspector at Leita Steel, you will play a vital role in pre-weld quality control, focusing on fit up and assembly inspections to prevent defects and ensure seamless progression to the welding bay.

Daily duties include:

Pre-Weld Inspection and Verification
  • Conduct detailed visual and dimensional inspections of fit up work performed by boilermakers and assemblers, checking for alignment, gaps, distortions, and assembly errors.
  • Verify that components are assembled within specified tolerances per project drawings, SANS 2001 CS1, and AWS D1.1 standards.
  • Ensure all materials and sub assemblies conform to Leita Steel's quality plans, material certifications, and ISO 9001/3834 requirements before release to welding.
Non Conformance Management
  • Identify and document deviations, such as out of tolerance fits or workmanship issues, issuing non conformance reports (NCRs) and recommending corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with production teams to resolve issues during the production process, minimizing downtime and rework.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, including photographs, measurements, and checklists, for traceability and audit purposes.
  • Prepare daily/weekly inspection reports for submission to the QA/QC Manager, highlighting trends in fit up quality and potential improvements.
Support and Compliance
  • Assist in material receipt inspections to confirm incoming steel components meet specifications.
  • Participate in internal quality audits and training sessions to promote adherence to fabrication standards.
  • Support the QA/QC Manager in coordinating with third party inspectors when required for high risk projects.
