Production Supervisor
Job Description
- Directing and supervising a shift-based operational team within the recovery plant.
- Actively participating in operational and governance forums such as Gatekeeping and SHEQ meetings to ensure effective communication and alignment.
- Recommending maintenance activities, upgrades, or equipment replacements to improve plant performance and reliability.
- Planning and coordinating daily operations to ensure efficient utilisation of raw materials, energy, and manpower.
- Managing and controlling production activities, including start-ups, shutdowns, operational checks, logging, and data trending to maintain product quality and plant reliability.
- Assessing and responding to abnormal plant conditions to ensure stability and smooth operations.
- Evaluating employee performance against role requirements and providing regular coaching and mentorship.
- Facilitating on-the-job training as well as coordinating external training opportunities where required.
- Continuously reviewing and adjusting employee roles and responsibilities to align with operational needs.
- Monitoring, guiding, and evaluating team performance against objectives and standards of conduct to maximise output.
- Applying and enforcing all SHEQ requirements within the section.
- Monitoring performance against SHEQ standards and addressing deviations promptly.
- Investigating safety and environmental incidents, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
- Ensuring excellent housekeeping standards are consistently maintained.
- Overseeing the completion of Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) observations in line with mill targets.
- Controlling and monitoring adherence to approved budgets, including fixed costs, renewals, overtime, and manpower expenditure.
- Maintaining effective communication with internal and external customers and suppliers.
- Responding promptly to customer feedback and implementing corrective actions when required.
- Matric (Grade 12) essential.
- N4 in Supervisory Management or equivalent leadership.
- National Diploma in Pulp and Paper, Chemical Engineering, or a relevant Trade Test.
- BTech in Pulp and Paper or Chemical Engineering will be advantageous.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in recovery and evaporator operations within a manufacturing environment.
- 1-2 years' experience in a supervisory or acting supervisory role will be advantageous.
- Location: 7 Western Arterial, Alton, Richards Bay, 3900.
- Duration: Permanent.
