This role owns and drives all Relentless and Continuous Improvement (RCI) activities for JBT Marel South Africa, ensuring alignment with global corporate standards while delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing operations. Key Responsibilities Operational Management Work closely with the Operations Manager and Project Managers to plan, coordinate, and execute the production phase of all manufacturing projects. Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure successful project delivery: + Sales / Commercial: Understand client requirements; contribute to project scope definition and budget preparation. + Engineering: Support project planning, certification requirements (e.g. ASME), and preparation of jigs, fixtures, and tools. + Procurement: Drive procurement strategies that improve workshop productivity, capacity utilization, and cost efficiency. + Manufacturing: Plan and manage daily manufacturing operations, including supervision of contract labour. Ensure strict adherence to quality control standards. Support planning and execution of aftermarket projects. + Management: Provide weekly reporting on project budgets, timelines, and status; ensure alignment with overall organizational strategy. Financial Management Lead annual budget planning for the Cape Town workshop, including: + Maintenance requirements + Capital expenditure + Training and safety initiatives + Workforce planning and human resource requirements Monitor and control operational costs to ensure budget adherence. Relentless and Continuous Improvement (RCI) Own JBT Marel South Africa's RCI strategy, execution, and performance reporting. Drive local RCI initiatives in line with global corporate requirements. Regularly report progress, metrics, and outcomes to the international corporate RCI structure. Foster a culture of continuous improvement across workshop operations. Human Resources & Leadership Manage approximately 10 full-time direct reports, as well as contract labour as required. Oversee daily workforce activities with a strong focus on safety, quality, and operational performance. Lead long-term people management activities, including: + Annual goal setting + Performance reviews + Bonus and merit increase management Manage discipline, conduct, and compliance within the team. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Ensure health and safety is treated as the highest priority at all times. Drive achievement of safety reporting targets and maintain zero recordable incidents. Ensure compliance through regular HSE training, hazard and risk assessments (HIRA), PPE adherence, and preventative equipment maintenance. Building Maintenance & Security Ensure workshop facilities operate under optimal conditions. Manage the utilization, maintenance, and security of all facilities and company vehicles, including forklifts, trucks, pickups, and pool cars. Personality Profile Independent self-starter with strong ownership and accountability. Able to direct and motivate teams to meet daily operational targets while supporting long-term strategic goals. Effective communicator capable of engaging at all organizational levels. Comfortable bridging the gap between hands-on manufacturing activities and corporate management requirements. Qualifications & Experience B.Eng (Mechanical or Industrial Engineering). Demonstrated project management experience, training, or certification. Minimum of 5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment. ASME certification and compliance experience will be advantageous.
