We are looking for a hands on, results driven Production Assistant to support our Production Manager and help drive daily operational excellence across the farm.
The Production Assistant supports the Production Manager in the day to day management of production activities on the blueberry farm. This includes planning, organising and supervising operational activities across various sections, while ensuring productivity, quality, compliance and effective people management.
Key Performance Outputs
Production & Operations
- Assist with planning and coordinating daily farm activities including planting, fertigation, pruning, pest and disease management, harvesting and general orchard maintenance.
- Coordinate and support section supervisors and workers to ensure targets are met.
- Inspect production areas and monitor crop development against block and seasonal targets.
- Identify operational risks early and assist in implementing mitigation measures.
- Capture and report daily production activities and outputs.
- Maintain accurate production, labour and activity records.
- Sign off daily time sheets and assist with absenteeism management.
- Assist with the induction and integration of new employees.
- Support supervisors in managing teams effectively.
- Monitor adherence to health, safety and labour regulations.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and certifications (e.g. SIZA, Global G.A.P).
- Support quality assurance requirements in line with company and crop standards.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures and best agricultural practices
Education & Experience
- Certificates in farming related activities such as irrigation, scouting, or plant production (advantageous)
- Minimum of 2 years' relevant farm production experience
- Practical experience across crop production activities from land development through to harvesting and farm maintenance
- Sound knowledge of horticultural and fruit production practices
- Understanding of good agricultural practices and crop production systems
- Basic knowledge of HR legislation relevant to farm operations
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Good planning, organising and time management skills
- Analytical thinker with strong problem solving ability
- Able to work under pressure in a fast paced environment
