Job Description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies seeks a reputable Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for their Weltevreden store. The role involves providing pharmaceutical care by addressing patient medicine related needs and ensuring these needs are met.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Working experience on Unisolv
  • Computer literate - MS Office
  • Sound numerical skills
  • Strong command of the English language and a second language
  • Willing and able to work retail hours

Advantageous

  • Knowledge of Retail/FMCG operations
  • Third additional language
  • Knowledge of or experience in SAP and E Scripting
  • Knowledge of drug and family planning and complementary medicine

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist with compounding, manipulation or preparation of a non sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to an approved formula and standard operating procedures
  • Assist with manufacturing of a non sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to an approved formula and SOPs
  • Assist with re packaging of medicine
  • Assist with distribution and control of stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assist with ordering of medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6 following authorization by an SAPC approved person
  • Assist with reading, preparing, and labeling of prescriptions, including selection, manipulation or compounding of the medicine, as interpreted by a pharmacist
  • Accurately interpret scripts, act responsibly and within legal requirements per SAPC regulations
  • Capture script details accurately and verify patient details in the system
  • Ensure accurate picking, packing, labeling and checking of medication, including common dosages and drug interactions
  • Provide accurate usage instructions to patients
  • Stay updated on medical aid procedures, claims and dispensing requirements
  • Ensure medications are checked for accuracy by and signed by a pharmacist
  • Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self medication and front shop
  • Follow up with patients on script tracking reports and appointments as requested by the dispensary manager
  • Explain medical aid costs to patients
  • Promote health information to individuals
  • Process necessary paperwork for accurate submission of medical aid claims
  • Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aids
  • Authorize chronic, HIV & AIDS and oncology medication
  • Maintain customer profiles on the system and merge profiles locally; notify UCS to merge centrally
  • Act on any messages in customer profiles appropriately
  • Report low or out of stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager
  • Receive dispensary stock per Dis-Chem SOPs and merchandise according to FEFO
  • Facilitate bi annual stock takes
  • Maintain stock, cash and asset control

Competencies

  • Essential: English and second language proficiency (read, write, speak); good communication and listening skills; customer service focus; strong attention to detail; sound numerical skills; problem solving; team player; trustworthy and honest; time management; ability to handle pressure; computer literacy (MS Office)
  • Advantageous: Knowledge of Retail/FMCG operations; third additional language; experience in Unisolv, SAP and E Scripting; knowledge of drug and family planning and complementary medicine
