Plant Operator: Safe Start-Up & Process Control

Job Description
Handover 
- Communicate the details of the past shift from incoming operator, ensuring that all information on problem areas are conveyed to operator and Shift leader.
- Sign and acknowledge all information in handover log book.
- Acknowledge all open permit to work clearances.
- Correct commissioning of plant utilities.
- Ensure that plant section is safe for start up.
- Ensure appropriate documentation is available for batch start up (e.g., works order, process log and manufacturing manual).
- Test equipment on request.
- Programming batch meter.
- Offloading and charging raw materials.
- Ensure safe operation under vacuum and reaction conditions.
- Transfer of product from reactor to vessel while ensuring correct line up.
- Commissioning of scrubber and pumps.
- Packing out of product into flobins and bulk tankers.
- Follow manufacturing instructions as per reaction requirements.
- Hoisting and charging of powder.
- Inform shift leader of process conditions.
- Communicate in an accurate, concise, clear and prompt manner.
- Alarms and deviations are promptly and correctly responded to.
- Promptly supply concise and complete information to the Shift leader.
- Communicate accurate and concise information to laboratory personnel.
- Communicate accurate and concise information to the engineering department.
- Identify changing process conditions and investigate.
- Seek help from appropriate personnel.
- Promptly report to Shift team leader and take correct action to solve and contain the problem, minimizing loss and waste, but done safely.
- Ensure effective shut down by preparing plant and liaising with relevant personnel.
- Plant and equipment are correctly and safely isolated according to relevant plant procedures.
- Ensure that the hand over log book is completed accurately.
- Sign off log sheets and records accurately.
- Ensure that all open work permits are closed off at end of shift.
- Efficient control over utility and raw material usage, to prevent wastage.
- Help Dip tanks for stock take.
- Perform various calculations.
- Ensure that all safety standards are maintained.
- Rectify and report safety hazards promptly.
- Ensure that all team members are using the correct PPE.
- Attend safety meetings and complete plant safety inspections monthly.
- Assist in incident investigations.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards on the plant.
- Unsafe conditions reported and rectified (e.g., spillages).
- Correct storage of equipment and stock.
