Physical Security Design Assistant
Job Description
Our ever-expanding Design team is looking for a Design Assistant/Assistant Consultant to join our team based in Cape Town working on global projects. The successful candidate will collaborate with other members of our design team in-house security engineering specialists to assist with the delivery and enhancement of our Design project information. We are continuously seeking to advance beyond our competitors in our Project Control capabilities as we have consistently raised the bar in security design.
This role will also provide supporting technical, design, and engineering services to the Group on projects, as directed by the Associate/Associate Director, and will be mentored by senior QCIC consultants in the delivery of security projects and quality management.
What you will do Design Support- Assist internal project managers with technical project deliverables through structural design milestone delivery stages.
- Produce and develop security design drawings using QCIC's proprietary security design tools.
- Carry out reviews of architectural schedules, drawings, and technical documentation to identify coordination issues and design risks.
- Assist in the preparation and drafting of design stage technical reports, specifications, and supporting documentation.
- Participate in design reviews and quality checks to ensure outputs align with project requirements and internal standards.
- Research emerging security engineering technologies and systems, and support the ongoing development of QCIC's internal technical knowledge base.
- Attend client / project team meetings alongside the Project manager, capturing accurate and professional meeting minutes ensuring clarity, action items and decisions to ensure project tracking.
- Assist with reviewing and formulating master templates (i.e. presentations, reports), consolidating them into a standard format, and storing them within a pre-established centralised repository.
- Assist senior management with the creation of financial project proposals.
- Assist with online project Document Management Systems (DMS), logging actions and items for remediation within a centralised action tracker.
- Collaborate and provide input on project and company presentations as required.
- Filing of documents and QA checks of folders. (Adhere to QCIC procedures)
- Rebranding of internal and external project documents to the QCIC marketing standards.
- Navigate and understand our internal project and resource management software.
- Assist with updating our internal design metrics tracker.
- Create new templates (i.e. trackers, reports, checklists) for the design team when required.
- Assist office manager with answering incoming calls and message taking.
- A keen interest in electronic engineering or related engineering disciplines.
- General awareness of engineering within the built environment (e.g. buildings, infrastructure, construction processes).
- Relevant academic background or early career experience in engineering, building services, or a related technical field is desirable.
- Familiarity with the RIBA plan of works and general construction processes.
- Extensive experience with all office-based applications, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word & SharePoint.
- The propensity for multi-tasking with good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat Reader/Pro for document comment, highlighting and applying markups.
- Deadline-driven, with good time management, and organisational skills, with high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent planning and organization skills are required for our fast-paced environment.
- Self motivated and able to take responsibility.
- Able to demonstrate initiative and a proactive approach to daily tasks.
- Committed to delivering an excellent level of service to the design team and an eye for detail.
- Excellent Excel skills, able to use various functions and formulas to produce and amend fee proposals.
- Strong listening and note taking skills with the ability to capture essential details in a timely professional manner.
- Ability to interpret construction programme deadlines.
- Must be able to work in a team environment.
- Electrical, Building services, Technology degree or similar.
