Job Description

Role Purpose:

  • To maintain, service, diagnose, and repair heavy construction machinery and equipment, ensuring optimal performance, minimal downtime, and compliance with safety standards.
  • The incumbent will support construction operations by performing preventative maintenance and attending to breakdowns on-site when required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on heavy construction equipment (e.g., excavators, bulldozers, graders, loaders, dump trucks, cranes).
  • Conduct routine servicing and preventative maintenance according to OEM specifications.
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns and carry out emergency repairs efficiently, both in the workshop and on-site.
  • Inspect equipment to identify potential mechanical issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate service records, job cards, and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Assist with equipment upgrades, modifications, and testing when required.
  • Operate workshop tools, diagnostic equipment, and lifting gear safely and correctly.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to apprentices or junior mechanics.
Minimum Requirements
  • Red Seal Trade Test Certificate: Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic.
  • Minimum of 5 years post-trade experience in repairing and maintaining heavy construction equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Valid driver's license (Code 08/10; Code 14 advantageous).
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and drawings.
  • Computer literacy for diagnostics and reporting (advantageous).
  • Willingness to work overtime, shifts, and attend breakdowns at remote sites.
