EDF power solutions (Pty) Ltd is an international energy player active in more than 25 countries, developing, investing in, building, and operating renewable and low carbon energy generation and transmission solutions. The company delivers a broad suite of technologies including wind, solar, hydro, biomass, battery energy storage, flexible power systems, and low carbon mobility solutions. In South Africa, EDF power solutions (Pty) Ltd has been operating since 2009 with offices in Cape Town, Gqeberha, and Johannesburg, and is undergoing rapid growth. The business currently manages four operational wind farms totalling 142 MW and is constructing 1.5 GW of wind, solar and BESS projects across 11 sites. It also leads major hydropower developments in Madagascar, Malawi, and Mozambique, with ambitions to deliver 5 GW of renewable projects in the region by 2030.
About the RoleThe People Business Partner (PBP) independently supports a defined business portfolio by delivering end to end people partnering services to leaders and employees. The role focuses on manager enablement, employee experience, performance effectiveness, and the implementation of People & Culture initiatives-ensuring alignment with organisational standards, labour legislation, and business priorities. As a trusted advisor, the PBP provides practical, data informed guidance on people matters, identifies risks and opportunities, and contributes to talent and workforce discussions. Complex organisational design or strategic HR matters are escalated as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities Talent & Workforce Support- Partner with leaders to understand workforce needs and support recruitment, profiling, offer processes, and onboarding.
- Monitor workforce trends (turnover, absence, engagement) and proactively identify people risks and recommendations.
- Support workforce planning within the assigned portfolio.
- Drive performance management processes and coach leaders on effective performance practices.
- Guide managers on feedback, goal setting and underperformance management.
- Support improvement processes and escalate complex cases where needed.
- Own the employee experience from onboarding through exit.
- Lead portfolio specific engagement action planning (e.g. MyEDF) and support implementation.
- Promote inclusion, wellbeing, and EAP utilisation.
- Identify development needs and support deployment of learning initiatives.
- Contribute to talent review and succession discussions.
- Support career development and internal mobility.
- Provide first line employee relations guidance in alignment with HR policy and SA labour law.
- Escalate high risk or precedent setting matters.
- Ensure consistent application of HR policies and procedures.
- Support remuneration, incentive cycles and benchmarking processes.
- Provide data and insights to support reward decisions.
- Support people planning by providing insights on headcount, capability, engagement, and risks.
- Implement People & Culture strategies and initiatives.
- Make independent decisions within delegated authority and contribute to broader HR initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree in HR Management, Industrial Psychology, Business Administration or related field.
- 6-8 years HR experience, including 4-6 years independently supporting managers as a People Business Partner.
- Experience managing a defined business portfolio across HR disciplines.
- Strong knowledge of SA labour legislation and HR best practice.
- Proficient in MS365 and HRIS/ERP systems.
- Able to interpret HR data and translate insights into actionable recommendations.
- Skilled in organisational design, workforce planning and talent management.
- Strong influencing and coaching capability.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- High emotional intelligence, sound judgement, and professionalism.
- Collaborative, solutions focused and capable of independent decision making.
