Payroll Consultant
Job Description
Our client is looking for a consultant to manage and oversee accurate and compliant payroll processing, ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time while maintaining adherence to statutory requirements and organisational policies.
Minimum Requirements:- Diploma or Degree in Finance, Payroll, HR, or related field
- 3-5 years' experience in payroll administration or consulting
- Experience with payroll systems (e.g. Sage, VIP, Workday)
- Strong understanding of South African payroll legislation
1. Payroll Processing & Administration
- Execute end-to-end payroll processing (monthly/weekly)
- Ensure accurate calculation of salaries, overtime, deductions, and benefits
- Maintain payroll records and employee data integrity
2. Compliance & Statutory Reporting
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation (e.g. PAYE, UIF, SDL)
- Prepare and submit statutory returns and reports within deadlines
- Stay updated on changes in payroll legislation and tax requirements
3. Data Management & Reconciliations
- Perform payroll reconciliations (e.g. SARS, third-party payments, benefits)
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies or payroll queries
- Maintain accurate audit trails and documentation
4. Employee Support & Queries
- Respond to payroll-related queries from employees and management
- Provide clear explanations of payslips, deductions, and tax calculations
- Support onboarding and offboarding processes (e.g. final payments)
5. Systems & Process Improvement
- Support payroll-related system implementations or enhancements
- Maintain and optimise payroll systems (e.g. Workday, Sage, VIP)
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and controls
- HR Business Partners
- Finance and Accounting Teams
- Line Managers and Employees
- External stakeholders (e.g. SARS, auditors, benefit providers)
