Part time Lecturer / Junior Lecturer: Afrikaans Second Additional Language, Dept. of Foundation Phase, Faculty of Education (contract ending 31 December 2026)

Job Title: Part time Lecturer / Junior Lecturer - Afrikaans Second Additional Language (Contract until 31 December 2026).

Job Purpose

This position assists the department in achieving its academic objectives, which include teaching according to a predetermined curriculum, conducting research and innovation, participating in community engagement and teaching practice activities, and developing and designing curricula. The successful candidate will teach in the field of education with expertise in Afrikaans at the Mowbray Campus.

Location & Hours

Campus: Mowbray Campus - Mowbray, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa.
Part time: up to 24 hours per month.
Hourly rate: R260 - R350 per hour (dependent on qualification and years of experience).

Responsibilities
  • Teach Afrikaans (Conversational) Language in the Foundation Phase Department.
  • Record and account for students' marks.
  • Conduct assessment and quality assurance.
  • Align work with hybrid teaching and learning models (face to face and online).
  • Perform other functions as assigned by the Head of Department.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge in teaching Afrikaans as a second additional language in the Foundation Phase.
  • Show excellent teaching skills and academic development and administration competence.
  • Apply adequate content and pedagogical knowledge and sound administrative skills.
  • Employ academic management skills, continuous learning and professional development.
  • Coaching and mentoring, teamwork, collaboration, and meticulous planning and organization.
  • Use sound knowledge of the CAPS curriculum.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Relevant Master's or Honours degree (preference will be given to candidates with a Master's degree).
  • At least two (2) years of relevant lecturing experience at tertiary level or five (5) years of relevant teaching experience at school level.
  • A relevant teaching qualification.
  • Afrikaans as a major subject at undergraduate level.
  • Specialized knowledge of teaching Afrikaans.
Employment Information

Annual salary package (incl. medical aid rate based on principal member only): To be confirmed.
Contract ending: 31 December 2026.
