PACKING & DISPATCH MANAGER

Baked by Steph Ltd.

Job Description

If you love the smell of freshly baked cookies and the satisfying feeling of a perfectly packed order flying out the door, this could be the role for you!

We're Baked by Steph. A highly creative, energetic bakery based in the heart of East London. We specialise in hand-iced cookies and baked treats that are guaranteed to put a smile on our customers' faces. In 7 years, we've grown from a complete start-up to delivering hundreds of thousands of orders across the UK, working with the likes of Disney, Marvel and Google, and supplying partners like John Lewis, Selfridges and Treatbox.

As we continue to grow and evolve, we're looking for a Packing & Dispatch Manager to join our team and take ownership of getting our beautiful products safely and swiftly into the hands of our customers.

THE ROLE

This is a hands on management role at the heart of our operations. You'll be responsible for leading our packing team, owning our dispatch processes end-to-end, and keeping everything running smoothly, even when it's a mad pre Valentine's Day rush and the macarons are still in the fridge!

You'll be joining us at an exciting moment; we're in a focused period of growth, which means the team is lean right now, but the role is designed to scale with the business. You'll initially manage a small team of 1 (small but mighty!), with the expectation that this will grow to 2-3 direct reports as we build momentum.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Packing & Dispatch
  • Oversee and manage the full packing and dispatch process from morning set up to end of day wrap up
  • Ensure all web, custom, corporate and wholesale orders are accurately packed and dispatched on time via Royal Mail, courier or customer collection
  • Brief the packing team daily, ensuring they have all order sheets, correct packaging and clear instructions
  • Be a visible, supportive presence on the packing floor, checking in regularly and keeping the team on track
  • Manage courier relationships and resolve any delivery issues swiftly
Packaging Management
  • Manage weekly purchasing and regular price comparisons with suppliers
  • Work closely with our primary packaging supplier on pricing, bulk orders, call offs and usage forecasts
  • Source and order packaging samples for new product lines in collaboration with our Brand Manager
  • Ensure FIFO is correctly rotated and date checks are maintained
  • Work with the Production Planner and Customer Service Assistant to flag and resolve stock issues
Wholesale Management
  • Manage wholesale relationships and logistics for key wholesale partners
  • Support with new wholesale line set up including case sizes, SKUs, weights and product descriptions
Team Management
  • Lead, support and motivate a small but mighty packing team
  • Manage holiday approvals and coordinate with the bakery on resource allocation
  • Maintain a positive, respectful team culture, especially during high pressure seasonal peaks
  • Own team training and development, identifying where additional support is needed and taking the lead on putting it in place
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We need someone who is Monica Geller levels of organised (she's the GOAT after all), but who also knows that managing a team well means keeping people calm, motivated and supported, especially when things get busy.

The ideal candidate will be:
  • An experienced team manager with a warm, respectful and encouraging management style
  • Calm under pressure. Keeps a cool head and brings steady energy to the team
  • A natural problem solver who can think on their feet and adapt quickly
  • Confident working across multiple platforms and systems (Google Workspace, Shipstation, Shopify experience a bonus but not essential)
  • A brilliant communicator who can work cross functionally with bakery, marketing and e commerce teams
  • Someone who doesn't mind the occasional team sing along or podcast listening session!
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU
  • £35,000 per annum
  • 50% staff discount
  • 28 days holiday per year, including bank holidays
  • Longevity reward scheme - earn an extra day of holiday for every year served after your first two
  • Annual work anniversary and birthday gift
THE ADMIN STUFF
  • 42.5 hours per week, Mon Fri
  • Permanent contract
  • Location: Bethnal Green, E2 9LE (this is a hands on, on site role by nature, with occasional work from home at the discretion of the business)
