Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for Operations Automated Drill Operator. The purpose of this role is to drill and control autonomous drilling machines to ensure holes are drilled for production-related activities according to the drill block plan within the time schedules, budgetary limits and safety standards.

Job DescriptionAs our Automated Drill Operator your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Safety. Health, and Environment- Demonstrates behaviour in line with health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Work collaboratively with supervisor, peers, and relevant others to achieve operational goals.
- Use and maintain Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) according to safety regulations.
- Follow SHE standards and specific legislation related to vehicle control.
- Adhere, read, and sign all appropriate work instructions and standards.
- Attend Safety meetings with the supervisor and team and ensure adherence to all safety protocols.
- Effectively identify hazards and safety deviations in the area of responsibility.
- Apply SLAM/HIRA/Mini HIRA correctly and report any safety or health-related issues.
- Take all necessary safety precautions when working on auxiliary equipment.
- Active participation in SLAMs, HPHs, relevant Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.
- Operate a remote controlled drill using the installed technology.
- Provide feedback on drill performance to ensure algorithms align with pit conditions and bit preferences.
- Decide which drill bits to use for each block.
- Conduct risk assessments and give feedback on remote controlled drilling, focusing on day to day operations and standard operating procedures.
- Perform general mining and drilling responsibilities during operations.
- Safely declare the drilling area before issuing drilling commands.
- Analyse information on the command centre screen to identify problems and initiate solutions.
- Instruct field operators on deviations and solutions to prevent production disruptions.
- Identify deviations or non conformances and implement corrective actions to achieve the production plan.
- Ensure adherence to relevant legislation and company policies and procedures.
- Monitor and maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
- Understand and implement AOM standards.
- Ensure safe operations and productivity of up to two drills simultaneously.
- Prioritize drilling activities and actions following the drilling plan.
- Ensure the safety of personnel near the drilling rig.
- Maintain an accurate drilling log.
- Inform the shift supervisor and dispatch of any problems and concerns.
- Conduct post drilling activities.
- Inspect equipment before the shift for functionality and safety.
- Record equipment inspections according to prescribed standards at the beginning of the shift.
- Check fire extinguishers and lock out devices, reporting any deviations immediately to the supervisor and dispatch.
- Conduct visual inspections of equipment condition at the end of each shift and report deviations to the supervisor and dispatch.Conduct SLAMS regularly.
- Follow up and resolve all reported abnormalities.
- Maintain housekeeping standards consistently.
- Ensure all safety signs and equipment are clean, visible, legible, and fit.
- Clean and store unused tools in designated places.
- Provide information during shift handovers as needed to ensure synchronised operations.
- Consult with relevant personnel to arrange assistance regarding required resources (equipment and personnel) for successful task execution.
- Support the supervisor and co workers within your competence level and follow company policies when directed or during the absence of the responsible person.
This role is in the Mining (MIN) department on a band P4 (C1/C2) reporting to the Supervisor Drilling & Pit Services A/B/C/D/.
Qualifications- Grade 12/N3
- SA Drivers Licence
- Valid Dover Certificate
- Relevant Equipment Licences (e.g., CAT MD6540, One Touch Drilling, Autonomous Remote Drilling)
- Competency A (advantageous)
- 2 3 Years of relevant drilling/mining operations experience.
- In depth knowledge of the operational equipment systems, e.g., collision prevention and fire suppression systems.
- Mining Operational Equipment Knowledge.
- Understanding of mining operations.
