Octotel is an established and rapidly expanding Open Access Service Provider, specializing in Open Access & GPON connectivity. Role Overview

The Network Owner is a senior field leadership role responsible for overseeing the deployment, maintenance, and performance of Octotel's fibre network. This position requires a hands on leader who can manage multi disciplinary field teams, uphold network quality standards, and drive operational excellence across route and access build projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and develop field installation and route teams to ensure readiness and optimal performance.
  • Ensure all team members are adequately equipped with the tools, vehicles, materials, and resources required to perform their duties effectively.
  • Manage and develop installation team members through structured training, performance feedback, and skills development initiatives.
  • Review and approve work orders and deployment plans prior to field execution.
  • Set clear daily and weekly targets and ensure teams consistently meet their deliverables.
  • Manage and monitor team leave, ensuring adequate coverage and operational continuity.
  • Proactively monitor and address absenteeism by enforcing the company's attendance policies, maintaining accurate records, and escalating non compliance through the appropriate disciplinary channels.
  • Uphold and maintain disciplinary standards, ensuring consistent application of company policies and procedures across all team members.
Network Build & Maintenance
  • Oversee the build and maintenance of the fibre network, ensuring all work meets Octotel's quality and technical standards.
  • Ensure that all joints installed and spliced are of consistently high workmanship quality.
  • Supervise and evaluate fibre floating and splicing activities across route and access projects.
  • Manage cable cut overs and splicing of new joints in new deployment areas.
  • Attend to network breaks within agreed SLA timeframes (MTTR).
  • Identify and manage high density traffic routes and congested hotspots.Allocate and maintain up to date fibre charts and network documentation.
  • Assist with technical support and new link builds as required.
Performance, Quality & Resource Management
  • Manage and control all operational resources - including vehicles, tools, equipment, and materials - to ensure optimal utilisation and efficiency.
  • Conduct regular tool and vehicle checks to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Monitor and continuously improve installation efficiency and service delivery standards.
  • Ensure accurate and consistent use of operational systems, including Trello card updates, photographic documentation, and workflow management.
Reporting & Communication
  • Provide timely and accurate updates on network breaks, snags, and building connections to relevant stakeholders.
  • Submit daily activity reports via email detailing achievements, completed work, and any delays.
  • Liaise with management on implementation plans, link builds, and project progress - both during build phases and upon completion.
  • Proactively flag problematic areas (HHs) and coordinate planning and scheduling of cut overs for route and access builds.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Matric certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent.
  • Qualification in IT/Telecoms or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct, hands on experience with Fibre/GPON networks.
  • Minimum 2 years of team management or supervisory experience.
  • Valid, unendorsed Driver's Licence.
