Middle Office Analyst - Financial Planning - South Africa

Atomos Investments Limited

Job Description

Career

You are detail driven, analytically minded, and comfortable working with financial data. You enjoy reconciling numbers, investigating breaks, and ensuring balances, prices, and positions are correct across systems. With a solid foundation in finance or accounting, you naturally question anomalies and understand the downstream impact of errors on clients, reporting, and regulatory outcomes.

This role is well suited to someone with experience in reconciliations who wants to move into wealth management and develop a broader understanding of investment operations, client assets, and the controls that underpin a regulated financial services business. You'll build on your existing technical skills while learning how investment products, platforms, and client portfolios operate end to end.

About the role

We are a UK based wealth management firm with client support operations in South Africa. The Middle Office (Investment Operations) plays a critical role in ensuring that client assets are accurately recorded, correctly priced, and properly monitored across multiple systems and third party providers.

As an Operations & Oversight Analyst, you sit at the heart of the business, acting as a control function between external providers, internal systems, advisers, and clients. Your work ensures that portfolio valuations are correct, client cash positions are accurate, and any issues such as pricing discrepancies, reconciliation breaks, or overdrawn accounts are identified and escalated promptly.

Skills and Experience
  • Background in finance, accounting, or a numerically focused administrative role, with 1+ yrs experience in reconciliations or financial controls.
  • Strong understanding of concepts such as pricing accuracy, position reconciliations, debtor balances, and cash monitoring.
  • Tech savvy, with intermediate Excel skills (e.g. VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables) and confidence working across multiple systems.
  • Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to spot anomalies quickly.
  • An interest in investment operations and wealth management; prior industry experience is helpful but not essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and advanced Excel; openness to learning new data and reporting tools.
  • A proactive learner, comfortable working alone and communicating issues clearly and escalating appropriately to the UK based team.
Accountabilities
  • Perform and support daily reconciliations between third party investment platforms and internal systems, ensuring client positions and balances are accurate and complete.
  • Investigate and flag reconciliation breaks, pricing differences, or missing transactions, escalating issues to the UK team for resolution.
  • Support asset pricing checks to ensure correct valuation of client holdings, understanding the impact of incorrect pricing on client portfolios and reporting.
  • Collate and review firm and client cash reconciliations, including identifying overdrawn client accounts or unusual movements that require follow up.

This work mirrors core accounting controls and is fundamental to protecting client outcomes and maintaining regulatory integrity.

Our agile working environment means you may engage in various tasks and projects, which keeps work interesting and you get to develop and grow.
