Summary

Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT) provide information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses with limited supervision. The MLT's job includes preparing samples for examination, using automated equipment and specialized instrumentation, performing numerous complicated tests simultaneously, and accurately interpreting the results in a timely manner to enable clinicians to make treatment decisions.

Responsibilities

Prepare and process specimen samples, operate automated laboratory equipment, conduct a variety of complex laboratory tests, analyze test data, provide accurate results to clinicians, maintain laboratory safety and quality standards, and collaborate with healthcare staff to support patient care.

Requirements
  • Entry level position with an Associate degree in chemical science, biological science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
  • National Registry for Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP or equivalent) preferred; registration eligibility required.
  • Completes training in at least two rotations within the first six months of employment, as required per hospital.
  • Strong language, math, and reasoning skills that enable analysis, interpretation, and drawing valid conclusions during data collection and mechanical or scientific procedures.
  • Good communication skills with the public and other hospital staff.
  • Desired attitude and knowledge for other duties as assigned.
