Maintenance Technician
Job Description
Job Summary: The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of all electrical and electromechanical systems within the manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will support production by performing preventative and corrective maintenance on converting machinery and other plant equipment to minimize downtime and optimize performance.
Responsibilities- Perform routine electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on production and support equipment.
- Maintain and service converting machinery, including rewinders, slitters, embossers, and wrappers.
- Diagnose and repair faults related to mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance as scheduled.
- Read, interpret, and work from electrical and mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Assist with installations, upgrades, and modifications of machinery and electrical systems.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and statutory regulations.
- Support the Maintenance Supervisor in developing maintenance plans and reporting equipment performance.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and production calls.
- Trade Test Certificate: Electrician (Red Seal preferred).
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience with automated systems and PLC-controlled machinery (basic understanding required).
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair converting machinery such as rewinders, slitters, embossers, and wrappers.
- Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Basic working knowledge of PLCs and automation systems.
- Must be bilingual, English / Afrikaans (both written and verbal).
- Must be physically fit, reliable, and able to work independently or in a team.
- Willingness to work night shift and overtime when required.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Safety-conscious and disciplined approach to work.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced production environment.
