Barrs Pharmaceuticals, a leader in SAHPRA regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to oversee all maintenance functions across our production operations. This is a critical leadership role ensuring equipment reliability, facility integrity, and compliance in a highly regulated environment.


About the Role

As the Maintenance Manager, you will lead the maintenance function across all production units, ensuring operational continuity, compliance with GMP/GEP, and optimal performance of production equipment, utilities, and facilities. You will manage a multidisciplinary team, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and play a key role in regulatory audit readiness.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance to ensure equipment uptime.

  • Ensure full compliance with SAHPRA, GMP, GEP, and safety standards.

  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and implement CAPA to improve reliability.

  • Manage utilities such as HVAC, purified water, steam, compressed air, and effluent systems.

  • Enforce OHS standards, conduct HIRA, and ensure contractor safety.

  • Lead, mentor, and upskill the maintenance team.

  • Manage budgets, spare parts, and external service providers efficiently.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and engineering projects.


Minimum Requirements

  • National Diploma or Degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial or similar).

  • 7-10 years maintenance experience within GMP-regulated, pharmaceutical, or FMCG manufacturing environments.

  • Experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams.

  • Strong knowledge of GMP, GEP, ALCOA, and regulatory audit expectations.

  • Hands on experience with major utilities and production machinery.

  • Strong computer literacy and ability to interpret technical drawings.
