Barrs Pharmaceuticals, a leader in SAHPRA regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to oversee all maintenance functions across our production operations. This is a critical leadership role ensuring equipment reliability, facility integrity, and compliance in a highly regulated environment.
About the RoleAs the Maintenance Manager, you will lead the maintenance function across all production units, ensuring operational continuity, compliance with GMP/GEP, and optimal performance of production equipment, utilities, and facilities. You will manage a multidisciplinary team, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and play a key role in regulatory audit readiness.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance to ensure equipment uptime.
- Ensure full compliance with SAHPRA, GMP, GEP, and safety standards.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and implement CAPA to improve reliability.
- Manage utilities such as HVAC, purified water, steam, compressed air, and effluent systems.
- Enforce OHS standards, conduct HIRA, and ensure contractor safety.
- Lead, mentor, and upskill the maintenance team.
- Manage budgets, spare parts, and external service providers efficiently.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and engineering projects.
- National Diploma or Degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial or similar).
- 7-10 years maintenance experience within GMP-regulated, pharmaceutical, or FMCG manufacturing environments.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Strong knowledge of GMP, GEP, ALCOA, and regulatory audit expectations.
- Hands on experience with major utilities and production machinery.
- Strong computer literacy and ability to interpret technical drawings.
- Strong planning, organizing, and maintenance execution capability.
- Excellent problem solving and technical troubleshooting skills.
- High attention to detail with disciplined documentation habits.
- Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- Leadership skills with a coaching and development mindset.
- Commitment to safety, quality, ethics, and continuous improvement.
