Maintenance Electrician
Job Description
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Electrician to perform electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work within a manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing and maintaining low voltage electrical systems, diagnosing and repairing faults, and ensuring all electrical equipment operates safely and efficiently. The role requires strong technical expertise in electrical circuits, control systems, AC/DC motors, and fault finding, as well as the ability to use electrical testing equipment such as multimeters, clamp meters, and meggers. The incumbent will also be expected to support PLC diagnostics, drives, and motor systems, while adhering to established safety procedures including lockout/tagout practices. In addition, the Electrician will contribute to maintaining high-quality standards in line with ISO 9001 requirements and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations (ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001). The role includes working with workshop tools, overhead cranes, and various mechanical and electrical components, as well as providing technical support to colleagues and management. The ideal candidate will have a Grade 12 with Mathematics, a recognized Electrical Trade Test, and at least 3-5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment. Strong computer literacy (MS Office), good communication skills in English, and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement are essential.
Electrical Installation Work- Design and install electrical circuits, control, and protection for general electrical installations.
- Terminate cables, cords, and accessories for low voltage circuits.
- Select wiring systems and cables for low voltage general electrical installations.
- Install AC / DC motors, switchgear, and associated accessories for low voltage electrical installations.
- Installing and secure electrical panels, illumination, and electrical machinery equipment.
- Fabricate, assemble, and dismantle utilities industry components.
- Install low voltage wiring and accessories.
- Verify electrical code compliance and functionality of low voltage general electrical installations.
- Be capable of using and understanding electrical testing equipment like multimeter, clamp meter, megger, and power analyser.
- Develop and connect electrical control circuits in AC or DC.
- Trouble shoot and repair faults in low voltage electrical apparatus and circuits.
- Capable of diagnostic basic input/output PLC problems.
- Capable of diagnostic and solve basic AC or DC drives problems.
- Capable of diagnostic and solve basic and advanced AC or DC motor problems.
- Able to do logout tag out safety procedures.
- Install and maintain emergency safety systems.
- Install and maintain emergency lighting systems.
- Use fixed and portable workshop tools (pneumatic and electrical power).
- Applies established safety procedures and guidelines.
- Use of floor controlled overhead crane with the appropriated rigging equipment.
- Make off, join and terminate multi and single core, stranded armoured cables using the appropriate techniques.
- Hydraulic power packs, pumps, compressors, vacuum units, overhead crane maintenance.
- Packing of electric motor bearings as per specification.
- Fit, remove, maintain, and diagnose faults on electric motor bearings.
- Provides technical information to staff, peers or management.
- Adhere to ISO 9001 Quality Management System with regards to system and procedures.
- Stipulate the basic procedure, partial responsibilities, and use of resources to achieve and maintain the specified quality.
- Continuously monitor the quality of processes and systems through statistical analysis and initiate and verify corrective and preventive action.
- Direct the workforce in safe working practices and housekeeping as laid down in ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001.
- Continuously upgrade subordinates' safety, health, and environmental awareness competence through training as per the training procedure.
- Investigate safety, health, and environmental related issues in terms of the OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 to prevent future accidents/incidents.
- School: Grade 12 (With Mathematics).
- N3 Electrical trade (Recognized Trade Test pass as an Electrician).
- 3 years of experience in work involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical components, equipment, or systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in MS Windows, MS Office.
- Good communication, writing and oral skills in English.
