Maintenance Assistant

A vacancy for a Maintenance Assistant has arisen at Life Kingsbury Hospital, Cape Town reporting to Thembisile Mdini, Hospital Engineering Manager. This position exists to maintain the Hospital buildings, grounds and facilities.

• Execute repairs/tasks as per job card and instructions from the Maintenance Officer/Supervisor in repairing masonry, plaster, paint, carpentry, ironmongery shop fitting, tiling, plumbing, glazing, floor covering, furniture and fittings
• Perform tasks in order to inspect, check on building structures and facilities in accordance with the maintenance program as delegated/directed by the Supervisor
• Attend to urgent matters, repairing items only requiring basic skills
• Inspect machine plant rooms and equipment
• Basic gardening and cleaning skills
• Identify, estimate and order material/stock correctly

• Grade 12 essential
• Driver's license
• N1 or equivalent civil and building engineering qualification would be an advantage
• Ideally 3 years plus experience in general building maintenance
• Competent in use of power tools and basic trade skills for the building industry
• Knowledge on handling of medical gas cylinders/change manifolds will be an advantage
• Good communication abilities
• Reliable and trustworthy
• Must have a good orientation towards customer services (internal customers)
• Standby duties, own vehicle and valid driver's licence code 8
