Job Purpose

We are seeking the services of a self-motivated and proactive librarian to work as part of a team at the Bellville and the new Tygervalley (Health and Wellness Science Building - Branch Librarian) campuses of CPUT. The successful candidate needs to be service-oriented and manage the diverse information, learning, and teaching needs of the Faculty of Health and Wellness Science. The successful candidate needs to coordinate operational activities in the new site library, including staffing and other activities that enable the branch library to support the goals of the university at the Health and Wellness Science.

The librarian would be expected to provide a wide range of services at this site and, when needed, at other sites of CPUT, particularly those supporting the Faculty of Health and Wellness Science. This librarian will work mainly on two campuses on alternative days.

This position requires the Librarian to work on Saturdays and after-hours shifts when required and needed.
You will need to be flexible and adapt to the constant changes that Librarians face within the workplace, and that may occur within CPUT.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor of Library and Information Science (Hons) or equivalent 4 year Library and Information Science qualification; Bachelor of Information Science (Hons) ; or Post Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Science (PGDip LIS)

AND

  • 3 years relevant experience in a Higher Education library environment, which includes collection development, research support and training of students and staff.
  • The person must be able and willing to work across different campuses of CPUT and on the after-hours shiftroster when required.

Recommendations:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in LIS or relevant fields linked to the Faculty of Health and Wellness Science will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in supervising branch activities in a Higher Education Library environment.
  • Experience in supporting training, collection development and research in a Higher Education Library.
  • Paid-up member of LIASA
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

The main Key Performance Areas (KPA)

  • Develop, manage, and maintain relevant library collections relevant to the Faculty of Health and Wellness Science insupport of the learning and research focus areas.
  • Deliver information literacy training to students and support future development in the offering at the universitylibrary.
  • Deliver training programmes to postgraduate students and staff in support of research activities in the Faculty of Health and Wellness Science that includes niche areas.
  • Providing research support, which includes scholarly communication, digital scholarship service and research datamanagement and metrics support activities.
  • Assist researchers with literature searches and systematic reviews.
  • Provide reference services for faculty information needs as required.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with lecturers and students.
  • Support relevant projects at CPUT Libraries
  • Create, update, and manage LibGuides related to the Faculty of Health and Wellness Science
  • Support the online client service initiatives.
  • Be involved in advocacy activities in the promotion of the library services at the Health and Wellness Science new sitelibrary.
  • Co-ordinate all library staffing and activities at the Health and Wellness Science new site library/ branch
  • Good managerial skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work within a team,
  • Building strategic work partnerships and relationships, Adaptability, Conflict management, Client/learner focus, Project management skills, Information monitoring, Planning, organising, Presentation skills, mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Knowledge of professional library practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of current issues and trends in academic librarianship related to research, learning and teaching.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the research process and methodology, including platforms used and advanced training practices
  • Knowledge of information literacy concepts and training practices in a Higher Education Library Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
