Job Summary The Programme Coordinator and Lecturer is a pivotal role that combines academic leadership, programme management, and teaching excellence. The incumbent will be responsible for delivering high-quality, innovative education, developing and coordinating multiple programmes within their field, and actively participating in academic governance structures as directed by the Head of Faculty and/or Chief Academic Officer.

This position requires the development and delivery of curricula that meet regulatory requirements, align with industry standards, and support the institution's commitment to academic excellence. The role involves overseeing the efficient delivery of programmes, fostering continuous improvement, and ensuring compliance with accreditation bodies and institutional policies.

The Programme Coordinator will also play a critical role in shaping the academic direction of their programmes, maintaining compliance with regulatory bodies, and ensuring that curricula remain dynamic, innovative, and aligned with professional standards. This position is instrumental in fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within the institution.

Main Purpose of the Job The Programme Coordinator and Lecturer is central to the delivery and coordination of high-quality education within their designated field, ensuring alignment with institutional goals, regulatory standards, and industry needs. This role encompasses academic leadership, curriculum development, and strategic programme management to foster excellence and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include delivering engaging and impactful teaching, designing innovative and responsive curricula, and maintaining compliance with the requirements of the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). The incumbent will actively support students' academic and professional growth while collaborating with Independent Contractors (ICs) to ensure consistent achievement of academic objectives.

By integrating academic leadership with operational efficiency, the role contributes to the institution's vision of providing transformative education that prepares students for both academic and professional success.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. 1. Programme Coordination (20%) - (Diploma in Metropolitan and Traffic Policing, the Postgraduate Diploma in Traffic Policing or as allocated by HOF/Chief Academic Officer)
    • Programme Design and Development
      • Lead the design, development, and review of programmes to ensure alignment with institutional strategy, the Higher Education Qualifications Framework (HEQF), and standards set by the Council on Higher Education (CHE).
      • Ensure programmes are industry-relevant and incorporate both theoretical and practical components.
    • Programme Monitoring and Review
      • Conduct regular internal and external reviews to evaluate the quality, relevance, and effectiveness of programmes.
      • Implement improvements based on stakeholder feedback, student outcomes, and changes in industry or academic standards.
    • Stakeholder Collaboration
      • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to maintain programme relevance and quality.
      • Foster partnerships that enhance the value and recognition of the programmes.
    • Student Recruitment and Selection
      • Oversee recruitment, admission, and selection processes, ensuring compliance with equity, diversity, and access policies.
      • Collaborate with relevant departments to attract high-quality applicants.
    • Programme Impact and Performance Evaluation
      • Assess the programme's impact on student employability and career success, driving continuous improvement initiatives.
      • Monitor programme performance using data-driven insights.
    • Programme Delivery and Operational Management
      • Coordinate the delivery and management of programmes to ensure operational efficiency, academic coherence, and industry relevance.
      • Ensure timely distribution of learning materials and support services; maintain accurate student records and compliance with policies.
  2. 2. Teaching, Learning, Academic Support, and Content Development (20%)
    • Course Material Development and Delivery
      • Develop and deliver engaging, multimedia-rich course materials and assessments for in-person and distance learning.
      • Incorporate interactive tools and platforms to enhance engagement and accessibility.
    • Delivery of Lectures and Tutorials
      • Deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, and tutorials blending theory with practice.
      • Employ diverse teaching methodologies to cater to varied learning preferences, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
    • Curriculum Design and Innovation
      • Lead design and development of industry-relevant, engaging content aligned with programme objectives.
      • Regularly review materials to reflect advancements and changing standards.
    • Student Consultations and Support
      • Provide academic support through individual consultations and group sessions.
      • Dedicate a minimum of 5 hours per week at the Writing Centre to assist students with writing, research, and critical thinking skills.
    • Academic Mentorship
      • Mentor students, track progress, identify at risk students, and implement interventions.
    • Assessment Design and Feedback
      • Develop robust assessments aligned with learning outcomes and provide constructive feedback.
    • Learning Experience Design
      • Design innovative learning experiences that integrate theory with real-world applications.
      • Promote critical thinking and professional readiness.
    • Continuous Improvement
      • Evaluate teaching practices and outcomes; integrate feedback from students, peers, and industry stakeholders.
  3. 3. Regulatory Compliance (5%)
    • Accreditation Adherence: Ensure CHE, DHET, and other bodies' standards are met; review offerings for alignment.
    • Implementation of Regulatory Changes: Stay updated and adjust programme design and practices accordingly.
    • Reporting and Documentation: Prepare and submit required documentation; coordinate with departments for timely submissions.
    • Policy Alignment and Monitoring: Ensure alignment with legislative requirements and best practices in SA higher education.
    • External Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with regulatory bodies and build relationships to support compliance.
    • Internal Training and Support: Provide training on regulatory requirements and develop practical resources.
  4. 4. General Academic Administration (10%)
    • Academic Records Management: Maintain accurate student records and ensure data protection compliance.
    • Registration and Graduation Processes: Facilitate registrations and verify graduation eligibility.
    • Programme Logistics Coordination: Manage scheduling, assessments, and resources; ensure effective communication between academic and administrative teams.
    • Data Management and Reporting: Maintain records and generate reports to support decision-making and QA.
    • Compliance and Documentation: Align documentation with standards and maintain records for audits.
    • Student Engagement Support: Resolve queries and provide accurate information on academic requirements.

    • Research Engagement: Conduct and publish high-quality research; align with strategic goals.
    • Curriculum Development and Research Integration: Integrate findings into curriculum and teaching.
    • Collaborative Research Initiatives: Collaborate with academia and industry; seek external funding.
    • Supervision of Student Research: Supervise projects from proposal to submission.
    • Professional Development in Research: Engage in conferences and share findings.
    • Institutional Research Contributions: Participate in QA and strategic planning; contribute to agenda topics.
