Job Description

Lyceum College is seeking a Lecturer and Programme Coordinator for the Diploma in Grade R Teaching. This role plays a key part in ensuring academic excellence, programme integrity, and a strong student learning experience aligned with regulatory and professional standards.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, programme coordination, academic leadership, and quality assurance, with a specific focus on the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of the Diploma in Grade R Teaching. The role requires a balance between academic delivery, programme oversight, regulatory compliance, and student engagement, within a distance-learning and blended-learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate and oversee the Diploma in Grade R Teaching programme, ensuring alignment with institutional strategy, HEQF requirements, and CHE standards.

Lead programme reviews, updates, and continuous improvement initiatives based on student feedback, academic outcomes, and regulatory requirements.

Coordinate admissions-related academic input and ensure programme relevance and impact on graduate employability.

Oversee and manage the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) component for both online and correspondence students, ensuring academic integrity, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Teaching, Learning & Content Development

Deliver high-quality lectures, tutorials, and academic support using appropriate methodologies for distance and blended learning.

Develop and update curriculum content, learning materials, and assessments aligned with programme outcomes.

Provide academic mentoring and structured student support, including a minimum of 5 hours per week allocated to student consultations via the Writing Centre.

Design, mark, and provide feedback on assessments to support student progression and success.

Student Engagement & Academic Support

Support students in navigating their academic journey, including programme structure, elective choices, and academic expectations.

Identify and support at-risk students through targeted academic interventions and referrals where appropriate.

Promote an inclusive and engaging learning environment that supports student retention and success.

Regulatory Compliance & Academic Administration

Ensure compliance with CHE, DHET, SAQA, and institutional policies.

Maintain accurate academic records, assessment documentation, and compliance reports.

Support registration, assessment, moderation, and graduation processes.

Leadership, Governance & Staff Support

Participate in faculty governance structures, academic committees, and quality assurance processes.

Provide academic leadership and support to Independent Contractors and sessional lecturers, including recruitment, training, performance monitoring, and contract management.

Contribute to institutional policy development and academic strategy within the Faculty of Education.

Research

Engage in scholarly research relevant to education and early childhood development.

Integrate research findings into teaching and curriculum development.

Supervise postgraduate research (where applicable).

Qualifications

Minimum Master's Degree in Education , specialising in Grade R, Early Childhood Development (ECD), Foundational Phase Teaching , or a closely related field.

PhD in a relevant field will be advantageous.

SACE registration is mandatory .

Experience

1-3 years' experience lecturing in higher education , preferably in Grade R, Foundational Phase, or ECD-related programmes.

Proven experience teaching Grade R or similar programmes.

Experience in programme coordination, curriculum development, or academic leadership will be an advantage.

Exposure to distance or blended learning environments is advantageous.

Experience working within CHE-accredited programmes and regulatory frameworks.

Strong academic leadership and programme coordination skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work effectively in a distance-learning environment using digital platforms.

Strong planning, organisational, and time-management skills.

Student-centred approach with a commitment to academic excellence and support.

Ability to collaborate effectively with academic colleagues, support teams, and external stakeholders.

Research capability and scholarly engagement in the field of education.
