Laboratory Assistant: Thermodynamics (Internal Applicants Only) - (8569)

To assist the laboratory technician to safely prepare, demonstrate, conduct, and evaluate practical classes within a Thermodynamics laboratory.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Matric. A National Diploma/ Diploma in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering is recommended.
  • 1-year relevant experience in a laboratory or related environment.
  • Working in machinery maintenance environment will be an added advantage.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
  • Assist the technician with operating Thermodynamics laboratory machines such as boilers, engines test beds, compressors and more.
  • Assist the technician with the maintenance of machines.
  • Assist the technician with the layout of class material and setting up equipment.
  • Assist the technician with guiding students making use of the thermodynamics lab.
  • Assist with any other reasonable general preparations for classes/instructions and lab bookings.
  • Make sure that the thermodynamics lab is always in a clean and usable state.
  • Assist technician with general machinery and equipment maintenance.
  • Ensure laboratory safety and standards are always upheld.
  • Familiar with temperature (heating and cooling), pressure (compressors etc.) and relevant settings.
  • Familiar with engine test beds.
  • Familiar with pressure vessels regulations.
  • Familiar with refrigeration machinery.
  • Time management.
  • Physical fitness.
  • Safety awareness.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong learner focus.
  • Have basic computer knowledge.
