Junior Process Engineer (Cape Town, South Africa)
Job Description
Paterson & Cooke South Africa is seeking to appoint a Junior Process Engineer to join the test facility team in Cape Town. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented early-career engineer with a background in minerals processing and a keen interest in bench- and pilot-scale test work.
The successful candidate will support the planning, execution, and reporting of test work campaigns in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The role requires a proactive team player who is eager to learn, develop hands on experience, and grow within a specialised engineering field.
This role is a full-time, laboratory-based position with the following tasks and responsibilities:
Tasks and Responsibilities:- Perform and assist with test work, including minerals processing, separation, dewatering and hydrometallurgical tests
- Assist in the development of test work proposals and cost estimates
- Support the design and setup of test equipment, including layout and operating parameters
- Contribute to safe work practices and ensure the proper handling of test equipment and reagents
- Conduct bench- and pilot-scale tests and record process data and performance
- Collect, analyse, and interpret test data, and assist in the preparation of technical reports
- Participate in the troubleshooting and optimisation of test processes
- Support research and development initiatives to improve test procedures
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality and environmental regulations
- Communicate effectively with team members and project stakeholders
- Participate in regular project updates and progress reporting
- BTech / BSc / BEng degree in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering
- Up to five (5) years' experience in an engineering laboratory, plant, or mining environment
- A valid driver's licence
- Basic knowledge of mineral processing processes
- Familiar with Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Eagerness to learn and develop technical capabilities
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise multiple tasks
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- High attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety
- Willingness to travel locally and internationally, as required
- A collaborative mindset with a strong team ethic
