The above is a new position is available immediately at Western Shoppe's flagship store in Paulshof, Johannesburg.
We are seeking a highly knowledgeable and passionate equestrian professional to join our team as a Sales Team Supervisor. This pivotal leadership role combines deep horse and rider expertise with retail and customer service excellence. Reporting directly to the Branch Manager, you will play a key role in developing the Sales team's equine knowledge, ensuring exceptional customer experiences, and maintaining the highest standards in product presentation, service, and brand representation.
This is an ideal position for a horse savvy professional who can confidently advise both customers and staff on rider support, tack selection, bits, and complementary equestrian equipment-without requiring technical saddle fitting skills. The successful candidate will ensure customers receive accurate, practical guidance tailored to the horse and rider, while fostering a motivated, knowledgeable, and high performing sales team.

Key performance areas:The Sales Team Supervisor reports directly to and supports the Branch Manager of Western Shoppe Johannesburg:
- Lead, coach, and mentor the Sales team, empowering them with deeper knowledge, product confidence, and customer service excellence
- Analyse, problem solve, and provide knowledgeable guidance to customers and Sales team in line with horse and/or rider needs
- Maintain high merchandising and store presentation standards, ensuring stock accuracy and readiness
- Represent the brand confidently at equestrian shows, competitions, and promotional events, assisting with setup, sales, and customer engagement
- Provide knowledgeable guidance based on hands on equestrian experience and a strong understanding of discipline specific rules and competition requirements
- Support the Branch Manager in daily operational tasks, POS, and administrative processes, while focusing on team development and customer experience
- A valid Matric (Grade 12) certificate
- Post Matric qualification in Equine Studies, Equine Management, or related field (Highly advantageous)
- Extensive equestrian background with practical riding experience, horse care knowledge, or competition support
- Previous exposure as an Official or support role at shows/events, with sound understanding of various discipline rules (Advantageous)
- Experience in Equestrian Retail or customer facing sales environments
- Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills
- Deep product knowledge across Saddlery, Bits, Bridles, Grooming Tools, Horse Care essentials, and Supplements
- Proficiency in POS and retail systems with attention to operational detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Fluent in English (written and spoken) with excellent communication, bi lingual English and Afrikaans will be advantageous
- Valid South African ID and Drivers License
- Ability to work full retail hours, weekends, public holidays, and event days
- Passionate about horses, people, and delivering exceptional service through knowledge and teamwork
