Job Description

Our client is on the lookout for an Internal Audit Manager that will manage the Internal Audit Function, providing independent and objective assurance and consulting services to the board, audit committee, and executive management. This role involves a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, control systems, and governance processes within the company.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the internal audit team in developing and executing a risk-based audit plan.
  • Conduct audits and reviews of the company's activities, systems, and processes.
  • Evaluate the management of risks within the organization.
  • Assess the effectiveness of internal controls in mitigating identified risks.
  • Provide consulting services to business units to enhance their operations.
  • Communicate audit findings to management promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of action plans to address audit issues.
  • Monitor the implementation of action plans.
  • Report audit activities, findings, and recommendations to the audit committee.
  • Conduct follow-up reviews to ensure resolution of identified issues.
  • Coordinate and cooperate with external auditors, compliance functions, and other assurance providers.
  • Manage and lead the internal audit team.
Qualifications
  • CA(SA) or Certified Internal Auditor (SA) (non-negotiable)
  • IT Risk and Audit Certification (Desirable)
  • Risk Management Certification (Desirable)
  • Risk Modelling (Desirable)
Experience
  • 3 - 5 years in audit, with a minimum of 3 years in internal audit.
  • Experience leading/managing an internal audit team.
  • Broad range of audit experience, including operations and financial audits.
  • IT audit experience (Desirable)
  • Experience auditing insurance companies (Desirable)
Knowledge
  • Advanced knowledge of the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and the Code of Ethics of the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIA SA).
  • Knowledge of IFRS.
  • Understanding of the statutory environment of an insurance company (Desirable).
  • Knowledge of King IV and other governance principles.
  • Understanding of Risk Management.
  • Understanding of IT risk, governance processes, and controls.
  • Knowledge of data management frameworks.
  • Ability to analyze big data.
Skills
  • Hands-on management of a lean internal audit team (non-negotiable).
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Awareness of internal assurance best practices.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Professionalism, empathy, influencing, and interpersonal skills, with clear written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency in the MS Office Suite, especially advanced Excel skills.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to handle unfamiliar tasks and changing needs, priorities, direction, and timing.
  • Willingness to travel within South Africa at least twice a year.
