Job Description

Job Purpose: Provide specialized pre-hospital health care to injured, sick, infirm, and aged persons and emergency transport to medical facilities at ILS/ECA level of care when required.

Key Performance Areas
  1. Safe patient care in compliance within HPCSA protocols as an ILS/ECA.
  2. Efficient handling of and response to emergency calls as per company policy.
  3. Accurate completion and administration of all required patient and company documentation.
  4. Responding timeously to all call outs.
  5. Assessing health status of persons involved in accidents, natural disasters and other emergency situations.
  6. Monitoring changes in the health status of patients during transport to and from medical, rehabilitation and other health care facilities.
  7. Performing medical procedures/treatment at ILS/ECA level of training.
  8. Efficient and effective management of emergency medical and trauma calls as per company standards, policies, and procedures.
  9. Recording information on patient's conditions and treatment on Patient Report Form (PRF) in accordance with guidelines published by HPCSA.
  10. Accurate completion of PRF's and submission for processing according to scheme and company policy.
  11. Responsible driving of emergency vehicles in accordance with company policy and National Road Traffic Act.
  12. Safe operating of company vehicles and equipment as per company policies and procedures.
  13. Practice of strict infection control measures and maintaining a safe, healthy, and accident-free workplace.
  14. Active participation in continuous development activities aimed at improving and updating clinical and industry related knowledge.
  15. Compliance with Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines published by HPCSA.
  16. Be able to inspire, motivate, develop, and lead other staff to ensure efficient clinical and professional emergency medical care.

The above is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities of an ILS/ECA, and all reasonable work-related requests from Management must be adhered to.

Job Requirements
  1. Current registration with HPCSA as ILS/ECA.
  2. Must have a valid Code 8 driver's license, and PrDP. - Non-negotiable.
  3. Certificate in Ambulance Emergency Assistant/ Emergency Care Assistant.
  4. Matric with Math's and Science.
  5. One year's experience post qualification.
  6. Ability to work effectively in a team.
  7. Ability to perform and remain calm under high pressure situations.
  8. Excellent telephonic/radio communication skills.
  9. Excellent communication skills with colleagues, hospital staff and Doctors.
  10. Fluent in English. Any additional languages will be advantageous.
  11. Flexibility to adapt and cope with changes at short notice.
  12. Strong administration skills with attention to detail.
  13. Must be PC literate - basic word, excel and e-mail.
