Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provides quality instruction to students in assigned courses in electrical and instrumentation, including Instrumentation, Programmable Logic Controllers, Control System Communications, Power Distribution, Electrical Troubleshooting, and Motor Controls.
  2. Provides quality learning experiences in both classroom and hands on labs, maintaining integrity of course standards and objectives.
  3. States clear objectives and criteria for each course in the syllabus; follows Curriculum Committee guidelines, integrates College learning goals, evaluates students' performance, and annually assesses performance relative to objectives.
  4. Teaches courses in various environments and modes, including evening and weekend instruction in Rock Springs, customized short courses for local industry, and alternative methods such as internet-based learning.
  5. Advises students clearly and effectively, learns requirements for Western graduation and transfer, and updates advising information in the Western Advising Handbook.
  6. Recommends course schedules, recruits and mentors adjunct instructors, prepares and updates course outlines, and recommends new courses as needed.
  7. Designs and implements effective learning processes, providing feedback on student improvement in attaining Western Goals for Student Success.
  8. Builds effective relationships with colleagues and the community; speaks to groups, answers inquiries, assists with research projects and workshops, locates information, and performs related tasks.
  9. Collaborates with industry partners to solicit cooperation and advise on curricular planning, new training opportunities, and maintain current program relevance; organizes advisory councils.
  10. Partners with School Chair and Dean of Outreach and Workforce Development to design courses or training that meet local industry needs.
  11. Recruits traditional aged students through admissions, relationships with high school instructors, high school visits, and promotion of the value of technical programs; visits industry sites to recruit adults.
  12. Maintains and repairs lab/education training equipment and facilities; designs and builds training models as necessary.
  13. Maintains reasonable office hours for on campus and distance students and updates colleagues; completes other duties.
  14. Participates actively in the College's Assessment Program, including Program Review.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Academic Credentials: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field and four years of professional experience with installation, repair, or troubleshooting electrical equipment in industrial or residential settings.
  • Equivalent Experience: Associate's degree in electrical and instrumentation or related field and six years of professional experience; OR no degree but eight years of experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of oil and gas, mining, processing plant, or power plant industry concepts and practices.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with students, colleagues, local industry, and administrators.
  • Sound judgment in all facets of the student teacher relationship and ability to teach a diverse group of community college students.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching at a community college.
  • Active participation in relevant professional organizations.
