Graduate Library Trainee

Forest School is a co-educational day school located in the heart of Waltham Forest, catering to students aged 4 to 18. We are seeking to appoint a Graduate Library Trainee to assist in both our Primary and Secondary school libraries. This fixed term position, running from late August 2026 to August 2027, is ideal for individuals seeking work experience prior to undertaking a postgraduate course in Librarianship or to provide school library experience for library graduates.

Assist in the day to day operations of the library,

Staffing the library desk (checking books out to students, processing returns, textbook issue and shelving)

Supervising students during breaks and lunchtimes

Creating seasonal displays.

Completing a self-directed project. This could take the form of:

Running a library club or book group,

Re developing and improving elements of the library collection,

Arranging author visits or other library events for the benefit of students.

These activities will form part of a comprehensive training program designed to prepare you for your future studies and a career in librarianship or provide school library experience for library graduates.

The position operates on a shared rota covering library open hours (7:30 am to 6:00 pm) with a 30 minute lunch break, Monday to Friday, during school term time. A hot meal is provided on working days.
