Who We Are Looking ForWe are looking for a Global Intelligence Intern with a strong academic interest in political studies, international relations, or global affairs. This role will support the Global Intelligence Department in researching, analysing, and developing foundational intelligence, while gaining practical exposure to the Intelligence Cycle and real-world geopolitical risk analysis.
This role is based in Cape Town, South Africa, and applications will only be considered from candidates currently based in Cape Town.
What You Will Work On- Support the development and updating of foundational ("intrinsic") intelligence, including:
- Political landscape and governance
- Socio-cultural dynamics
- Security and risk environment
- Economic and financial context
- Infrastructure, health, and environmental factors
- Research regional and global geopolitical developments, identifying trends relevant to client interests
- Assist with data collection and source validation under the guidance of the Collections and Source Lead
- Analyse and synthesise open-source information into clear, structured intelligence outputs
- Contribute to the creation of country or topic-specific intelligence modules using existing datasets
- Monitor current events and provide contextual analysis to support broader intelligence products
Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate, postgraduate, or PhD programme in:
- Political Science
- International Relations
- Security Studies or related fields
- Previous academic or internship experience involving research, writing, or analysis
- Exposure to geopolitical, security, or international affairs topics is highly advantageous
- Strong research and analytical skills, particularly in geopolitical and international topics
- Ability to interpret global events and translate them into clear, concise insights
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to present complex political or global issues in an accessible way
- High attention to detail and critical thinking ability
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint)
- Experience using open-source research methods (OSINT) is advantageous
