About our company

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU), a Schedule 3A entity in terms of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), is an independent statutory body that was established in terms of the Special Investigating Units and Special Tribunals Act No. 74 of 1996. The primary mandate of the SIU is to investigate allegations of corruption, malpractice and maladministration in government departments, municipalities and State Owned Entities, and to recover financial losses suffered by State institutions.

Introduction

The SIU has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Talent to join our dynamic team. Our team is passionate about fighting corruption and recovering financial losses suffered by the State. The SIU hereby invites suitably qualified and experienced applicants to apply for the opportunities to serve the Unit.

Main purpose: To lead the provision of expert forensic investigation specialist services during national investigations into high profile maladministration and corruption within State institutions, in support of the multi disciplinary approach ("MDA") to all projects/assignments across the organisation. To oversee the quality of forensic investigation specialist input on national and strategic projects/assignments through the setting of predetermined standards.

Required knowledge and Behavioural (include but not limited to):

  • Thorough knowledge of the laws, rules, and legal precedents about evidence, searching of premises, and the technical aspects of conducting interviews.
  • In depth knowledge of the investigation environment and forensic investigation principles.
  • In depth knowledge of the applicable legislation (e.g. Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law of Evidence, etc.).
  • In depth knowledge of investigation techniques.
  • In depth knowledge of public sector legal environment (PFMA, MFMA, Treasury Regulations and other relevant Treasury Directives).
  • Knowledge of corporate governance and ethics.
  • Knowledge of the IT environment, as well as financial systems and processes.
  • Knowledge of project management principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Sound knowledge of forensic quality assurance and quality management systems.

Minimum qualification and experience: B Honours Degree in Law, Accounting, Forensic Accounting or equivalent (NQF 8). Membership with a professional body would be advantageous. Six to eight years' experience in Forensic Investigations, of which four years are at a management level. Experience in public sector investigations.
