Farm Manager
Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Farm Manager with strong leadership, solid technical skills and proven success in managing production and labour. The ideal candidate must have at least 10 years' farming experience, including 5 in management, with expertise in table grapes, irrigation, fertilisation, chemicals, packhouse operations and quality standards. A hands on, self-driven approach and excellent communication skills are essential.
Experience & Knowledge- Relevant tertiary qualification
- Minimum 10 years' experience in farming, with at least 5 years at management level
- Proven track record of successfully managing production and labour
- Sufficient experience in the production of table grapes
- Extensive technical knowledge of chemicals, fertilisation and irrigation
- Experience in managing a packhouse effectively
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems, labour relations, food safety and export requirements
- Computer literate, especially with Excel, DFM Utilities and Paltrack
- Must be fluent in Afrikaans and English
- Self-driven, energetic person with vision
- Able to work under pressure
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong leadership skills: ability to manage, direct, motivate and train employees
- Hands on and practical
- Self disciplined: must be able to work without supervision while meeting set targets
- Manage daily farm production aligned with the strategic plans of senior management
- Perform tasks independently and meticulously on chemistry, fertilisation and irrigation at the right stage of development
- Manage relationships with suppliers effectively
- Responsible for all labour related matters and ensuring labour is effectively managed
- Manage packhouse operations in terms of quality, quantity and financial implications
- Make contributions to financial planning and work within budget
- Maintain an effective quality management system to ensure all products are up to standard, MRLs are not exceeded and internal quality is maintained
- Oversee maintenance of mechanical equipment and infrastructure
- Maintain data integrity and manage systems (i.e. keeping information up to date) associated with audits such as Global GAP, SIZA, etc.
- Any other relevant functions as reasonably required
