Job Description

Our client is seeking a seasoned and strategically-minded Senior Employee Relations Specialist to join the Human Resources function. This pivotal role is central to enabling an environment of high engagement by expertly managing relationships between leadership, union representatives, and the broader employee base. You will be instrumental in mitigating risk, ensuring legislative compliance, and shaping the future of workplace relations through proactive planning and stakeholder management. Expect a role where your ability to influence, negotiate, and problem-solve directly contributes to operational stability and success.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with senior leadership and Group ER to develop and execute forward-thinking ER strategies that ensure a sound industrial relations environment
  • Serve as the definitive Subject Matter Expert, providing authoritative consultative support on all complex Labour Law matters, including the LRA and BCEA.
  • Lead the investigation, management, and resolution of complex employee relations cases, ensuring strict adherence to due process and minimizing organizational risk
  • Represent the organization confidently at external dispute resolution forums, including the CCMA, preparing comprehensive case evidence and arguments
  • Proactively manage and nurture relationships with union officials and shop stewards, facilitating regular consultation and input into significant operational changes
  • Drive the implementation of leading ER practices and proactively "feel the pulse" of the business unit through climate assessments and direct engagement with operational teams
  • Oversee the accurate capture, analysis, and reporting of ER data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for management review
  • Mentor and potentially lead a small team of ER professionals/representatives, driving a culture of performance and development
Requirements
  • Minimum 3-year Degree (Social Sciences or Law)
  • Minimum 7 years of specialist Labour Relations experience, including managing union relationships
  • Expert proficiency in BCEA, LRA, and related labour legislation
  • Proven track record in CCMA processes, case investigation, and management
  • Exceptional negotiation, conflict handling, and influencing skills
